Issued on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Olof's birth.

On Dec-20-20 at 19:25:32 PST, seller added the following information:

Theo Olof plays Johann Sebastian Bach: Sonatas & Partitas BWV 1001-1006

This set was recorded in April, 1979, to celebrate Olof's 50th anniversary as a violinist. Beautiful performances executed on his François Louis Pique violin (1797) from France.

The recordings were made in the 'Allemanskerk' in the small Dutch town of Oudkarspel some 34 miles North of Amsterdam.
Theo Olof was born in Cologne, Germany in 1924 as Theodor Olof Schmuckler but changed his family name to Olof (his second christian name) because of the rise of the Nazis and their National Socialist Democratic Workers Party (NSDAP). In the 1930s he found refuge in the Netherlands and had a remarkable and prosperous recording career.

The sequence on the three discs differs from the generally adopted order. The sequence could have been inspired by Johann Peter Kellner who made a copy in the early 1700s.
