At long last one of the most beautiful period Kirchin recordings is available. Never commercially released before this is Basil Kirchin in his "imaginary film" period. In other words it;s library music, but not as we know it. I cannot stress enough how awesome this album really is. The history of the music is simple - originally made as a library recording in 1966, it includes guitar work by a pre-Zep Jimmy Page, some sax by Tubby Hayes but names are not important here. The music ranges from blissfully sad to hypnotically weird in a pastoral jazzy odd way. This recording is strangely addictive, so consider yourself well warned. Some have said this is the best Trunk release to date, I am not saying anything. All I will add though is that it's essential and almost too stunning for words. And this CD is very limited. As was the vinyl, which is all sold out now. So hurry up and push that yes I want to buy it right now button. And get one for your friend while you're at it. And all the women in your life too. And if you are a woman, get one for the man in your life.

Recorded back in 1966 when the North was indeed still industrial, as opposed to the Pannini/Call Centre riddled hinterland of today, 'Abstractions of the Industrial North' is a collection of imaginary film soundtracks and library music recorded by Basil Kirchin. With a very Duke Ellington set of roots (jazz drummer with big-band experience), Kirchin had made numerous dalliances into the avant-garde before embarking on his 1966 recording purge, with all these aural facets surfacing on the record. Opening with 'Prelude and Dawn', Kirchin displays an aptitude to match that of the much more renowned David Axelrod, with staccato hearted instrumentation that can cause a double take at times with much contemporary, event trendy musical explorations. Kirchin's musical ability is quite stunning, with themes and structures emerging throughout the compositions that will have you convinced they were recorded in the last decade as opposed to over forty years ago. Also of interest is Kirchin's ear for future stars, with 'Pageing Sullivan' featuring a pre-Zep Jimmy Page and Big Jim Sullivan making this both a musical curio and an astonishingly complete, forward thinking aural document." -- Boomkat
Shipping: Records will be shipped in 12x12 Corrugated LP Mailers. Each LP will be sandwiched between 12x12 corrugated pads and wrapped in bubble wrap. The paper sleeves will be taken out of the LP jacket, and the jacket and record will both inserted inside the plastic sleeve.
