The best Beach Boys album, and one of the best of the 1960s. The group here reached a whole new level in terms of both composition and production, layering tracks upon tracks of vocals and instruments to create a richly symphonic sound. Conventional keyboards and guitars were combined with exotic touches of orchestrated strings, bicycle bells, buzzing organs, harpsichords, flutes, the theremin, Hawaiian-sounding string instruments, Coca-Cola cans, barking dogs, and more. It wouldn't have been a classic without great songs, and this has some of the group's most stunning melodies, as well as lyrical themes that evoke both the intensity of newly born love affairs and the disappointment of failed romance (add in some general statements about loss of innocence and modern-day confusion as well). The spiritual quality of the material is enhanced by some of the most gorgeous upper-register male vocals (especially by Brian and Carl Wilson) ever heard on a rock record. "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," "Caroline No," and "Sloop John B" are the well-known hits, but equally worthy are such cuts as "You Still Believe in Me," "Don't Talk," "I Know There's an Answer," and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times." It's often said that this is more of a Brian Wilson album than a Beach Boys recording (session musicians played most of the parts), but it should be noted that the harmonies are pure Beach Boys (and some of their best). Massively influential upon its release (although it was a relatively low seller compared to their previous LPs), it immediately vaunted the band into the top level of rock innovators among the intelligentsia. -- Richie Unterberger

All items are in excellent or mint condition unless otherwise noted. All items are factory originals with complete artwork and packaging unless otherwise stated. I do not sell cd-r copies or test pressings unless otherwise stated. I will not end auctions early; it is not fair to other bidders. I am not responsible for the content of items - ie whether you like the music or if the CD ROM works in your computer or not.

Also please note that my grades do not reflect the jewel case unless there is a special jewel case. I generally do not send out damaged or broken jewel cases, but they may be scuffed and can break in the mail. It is not cost effective to mail you a new jewel case.

Some items may be promotional items which may or may not have markings such as stamps on the booklet, drill holes in the jewel case, or cuts in the bar code. If you are concerned about these things, it is your responsibility to email me and ask before bidding.

If you are a record company or VeRO Member and have an issue with an item please email me directly. I would much rather remove one cd than be suspended from eBay costing me thousands of dollars.

Shipping & Handling charges cover first class mail or media mail, bubble mailers and packaging, administrative costs, etc, and is not negotiable . Please do not email me to complain about shipping charges.

Additional posters can be shipped at the same time at no extra charge. Books and magazines and other oversize or quantity items will be shipped media rate within the USA. Shipping prices are always higher for international shipments.

LPs and Laserdiscs (includes cardboard LP mailer box with insert): Single LPs: $4 to USA media mail, $6 to Canada air mail, $10 to Europe air mail, $11 to Italy, $13 to Australia, Asia, Africa and South America air mail. Double (or more) LP sets will be higher, please confirm with me before sending payment. All vinyl is sold as collector's items "as is" and described as accurately as possible via visual standards only. I cannot be responsible for defects such as surface noise, warps, or skips. Some items may have price tags on them.

I am sorry but I cannot be responsible for loss or damage to items (including jewel cases) once they have been mailed. All items are shipped clean and in apparent excellent condition unless otherwise described. I strive to be completely honest and accurate in all item descriptions, but I cannot test every item for defects and sometimes mistakes or typos happen. If you think there is a mistake in a listing please let me know.

If you want insurance please add $1.30 per $50 value. Insurance is not available for items shipped outside the USA.
