Description

THE BEATLES - 'THE BEATLES' CHRISTMAS RECORD 1963'

Mailed out to UK Fan Club members only in December 1963 this was the first of 7 specially record flexi-discs recorded by The Beatles.

Recorded at Abbey road directly after sessions for 'I Want To Hold You Hand' on 17th October 1963 , the message included scripted greetings and comic renditions of Christmas carols performed by each member in turn.

Such was the demand, copies were still being mailed out in February 1964 although the initial batch came with the picture cover.

This outstanding example is 1-sided, 33 1/3rpm flexi-disc on the blue & white LYNTONE label: LYN 492

Matrix number: LYN 422-1U

The disc is housed inside one of the yellow prttned gatefold cover with 'National Newsletter No.2'  printed inside the gatefold.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT

Fully intact and free from any writing or missing paper. There is some adhesive bleed-through which is a common issue for many copies of this disc.

Visual: EXCELLENT +

This fragile disc itself is perfectly clean and free from any creases, bends or other such damage. The playing surface is perfectly clean & unworn, free from any scratches scuffs or any other such traces of wear. Close examination directly beneath my unforgiving halogen desk lamp reveals some minor imperfections common to this type of media and a few faint paper hairlines, but nothing I would describe as wear.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +

This copy has clearly been rarely if ever played and the sound quality throughout is totally undamaged and unworn. Apart from the usual light background & occasional light tick usually associated with this type of media, my careful play-check at volume found no groove wear distortion or any other audible faults.

Cover: EXCELLENT +

A spectacular, unblemished example which has been carefully stored flat and away from daylight in a non-smoking environment and retains its vibrant yellow colour inside and out. It is also free from any creasing or any other significant traces of wear. There is the lightest touch of shelfwear to the lower edge but no damage to the delicate central hinge. Both both staples are clean & unrusted. Difficult to believe is 48 years old.
