READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Beatles 2-LP The Beatles’ Story BEAUTIFUL 1966 Pressing in Shrinkwrap, NM!
Not a 1964 pressing, but this run from 1965 and 1966 still used first pressing labels. This copy is absolutely beautiful and still in the shrink. Sides are configured 1 and 4, 2 and 3.
Vinyl--- NM/NM. EX/NM. Side 2 is the only one that has just a couple of light hairlines. All other sides are NM.
Plates--- W5/W3. W3/W5. Later “W” plates indicate that this copy is very late in the first pressing labels run. Erring on the conservative side, let’s call it 1966, instead of 1965. Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.
Cover--- EX. Still in the shrinkwrap, the gatefold has never been opened.
West coast covers used those cream-colored front slicks, which clearly define the wide-brimmed top seam of the front slick laid over the back wrap-around slick. This copy from the east coast has a white slick, so you may not be able to see the wide brim in the photo. But it’s definitely the earlier wide brim slick seam at the top, thinner one at the bottom.
Bottom back cover doesn’t mention the Jacksonville plant, which went online in June of 1965.
Front and back slicks have a barely detectable yellowing. Back cover has a rust spot in and under the EMI block on the back right. Front slick has a couple of small tears in the shrink, which may have allowed for the light yellowing.
Breathe Holes--- There are two breathe holes on the front cover. One is under the tag line, under the word, “Narrative” in blue. The other is due south in the red stripe of the Union Jack beneath George.
Labels--- EX/EX. EX/EX. All four labels are full-color and full gloss. Only sparse few short spindle marks are present, and not on all labels. I’ll call them EX in case my eyes are failing me.
Inner Sleeves--- VG+. Original Burnt Orange Capitol inner sleeve are present. Judging by these sleeves having been issued in 1965, and judging by the fact that I haven’t ever seen copies of The Beatles’ Story with yellow inner sleeves, I’m still going to err on the side of 1966.
Both sleeves present EX, except for one sleeve having a tear at the top lip on one side, and both sleeves having seam splits that range from less than an inch to four inches long in one case.
Generic inner sleeves will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeves en route.
RIAA: None.
I’m going to hate to see this one leave, but it’s time for another serious collector to own it.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
