Beatles 45 1970 Let It Be First Pressing Mystery Pressing Plant, NM!

I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…

This one has been a question mark for me for going on 45 years.  I bought this and the “Happy Xmas” black and green swirled 45 when I was managing a Sound Odyssey record store from 1981-1984, when the Scranton plant was liquidating its inventory of Apple singles and LP’s.  And yes, I was a geek-out even back then.  This copy has the following features that still make it impossible for me to identify the plant where it was pressed:

1.  The Side 1 label is from the Los Angeles plant, with the bright green Apple and the green background.  The Side 2 label looks like it’s from the Scranton plant, with the darker Apple and the brown/black Apple background.

2.  Both labels have Jacksonville’s higher gloss, which causes the popped bubble damage around the labels’ periphery.

3.  Both sides also have the “Bell Sound” stamp, as well as Sam Feldman’s initials, sf. 

4.  But neither dead wax has any of Capitol’s insignias at all, whatsoever.

To this day, I’m still as clueless as to its origin as I was in the early 80’s.

Vinyl: NM/EX.  Although I’ve never played this copy, Side 2 has some very minor light and short angel hairs that you’re going to have to use a good light source to find.  They probably occurred during transport.  Side 1 looks unplayed.

Plates: Z11/Z12.  No Capitol insignia present on either side.

Labels: EX/NM.  Side 1 has some missing gloss at the bottom of the label.

Sleeve: Stunning EX.  Not NM, but very close.  Bought the same day and from the same store as the mystery plant “Let It Be” single for sale this week, this copy comes in a “The Beatles on Apple” sleeve.  The warehouse was likely exhausting their supply of those sleeves.

Label serrations are almost non-existent on both sides.  All three seams are flat and razor-sharp.  NO SEAM SPLITS.  Original price sticker still affixed to the sleeve.  I stored the records out of these sleeves for 54 years.

I kept these nice.

**Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.**

I’ve never seen another copy like this one, nor have I ever seen another title that had discrepancies like these.  If your Beatles collector is a good sleuth, get them this copy for Christmas this year, and see if they can figure it out.  And then tell me.  Seriously.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
