Beatles 45 Souvenir E.P. Absolute RAREST Commercial Vee Jay Oval Logo, EX!
I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…
For sale this week are 5 Vee Jay-issued singles, housed in the 5 different Vee Jay company sleeves from the early 60’s.
This sleeve variation features the Vee Jay stylized letters ringed around the playhole.
Any label variation of this Vee Jay E.P., as collectors don’t need to be told, is rare if it’s in collector’s condition. But besides the blue and white promo labels, this is the single-hardest of the commercial labels, all black with the oval logo, to locate at all. In fact, so few copies have been uncovered that its value hasn’t been agreed upon since 2014.
Vinyl: EX/VG++. Both sides shine like new, 90 and 95%. Side 1 would have been NM, except for a small blemish of tiny scratches at the bottom. Side 2 is in the same condition, except for a patch of light scratches that can’t be felt with the fingertip.
Plates: Each side has the following:
*Side 1 has the “Audio Matrix” machine-stamp.
*The “ARP” machine-stamp, indicating this was pressed by the “American Record Pressings” out of Michigan.
*Hand-etched initials, “URJ.”
*Side 2 has these same markings, except that the “ARP” stamp is barely noticeable. The “A” is the only letter that was stamped, and it runs into the hand-etched job number. But it’s there.
Labels: EX/EX. Side 1 has a manufacturer’s defect of a popped bubble near the playhole. Both sides look freshly-printed, with just a little flaking off of the lettering in select spots. Beautiful examples of this rare label!
Sleeve: VG. Original Vee Jay sleeve has the corresponding Michigan address printed at the bottom. Sleeve has light wrinkles on both sides, as well as staple holes in top corner. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
**Note: All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.**
If you have a Beatles collector to buy for this year, this is going to be a very tough call as to whether this is going to be their Christmas gift this year, or yours. This one is too rare to give to just anybody.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
