Description
Beatles, ABBEY ROAD, original UK 1969 1st press, stereo LP
Lack of space has forced me to sell my vinyl collection from way back when...
(If you have been, thanks for sticking with this protracted event.)
This auction is of the Beatles, ABBEY ROAD album, from early 1969 – Grade VG+.
ABBEY ROAD is a landmark album as it is the last, joint collaboration by The Beatles.
The glossy, front cover shows the Beatles on a zebra crossing, on Abbey Road, London NW8.
Abbey Road Studios are located just beyond the white, VW Beetle, behind the low, white wall.
The view along Abbey Road is due north west, by the junction with Grove End Road, behind and to the right.
Abbey Road Studios were due to close this year but plans are being investigated by EMI to keep them going...
These early versions came without a “Her Majesty” credit for “The End” track and
still showed Paul McCartney with a cigarette in his right hand...
It is an original album, with a glazed outer/black inner, covers.
Enjoy a fantastic and iconic, stereo disc!
LABEL – CATALOGUE REFS – VINYL – Grade: VG+
Apple Records/EMI – PCS 7088 – Disc weight is correct at 135 grams.
MATRIX – STAMPERS
Side #1 YEX 749 – 2 7 H 0
Side #2 YEX 750 – 1 1 0 L
AUDIO – Grade: Exc.
All tracks played through excellently after a cursory, anti-static carbon brush cleaning. There were the odd dust clicks which disappeared after the second run through – this is why it takes time to list these things! In any event, the stereo vinyl sound is a dream but pro cleaning is always an option.
DISC VISUAL – Grade VG+.
The disc is very clean, warp free and retains its deep glossy, black vinyl sheen. There are a few wispy hairlines none of which affect play.
The labels are very clean, bright and without any markings or writing.
The spindle hole has slight edge scuffs but still firm on the spindle.
PACKAGING – Grade VG+.
The classic laminated glossy, “Garrod and Lofthouse” photo cover, is intact. It is slightly scuffed along the loading edge and bottom corners. There is a crease at the front, top left corner and back, bottom right corner. There is slight discolouration and a few small areas of lamination.
The spine edge titling is clearly legible along the full length. There are five, light scuffs.
The black inner is remarkably clean. There is a very slight nick at the centre of the loading edge.

GRADING
I tend to be conservative in my grading. The grading system I have used is loosely based on UK record mags as follows:–
MINT
Un-played item. The vinyl is in brand new condition, no surface marks or deterioration in audio quality. The cover is pristine.
EXCELLENT (Exc)
The vinyl is shiny, with few signs of having been played but with no appreciable lessening of audio quality. The packaging and extras may have negligible wear.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)
The vinyl is still be shiny but may have a few light marks, with very little lessening of audio quality. Light wear and tear on the packaging or extra items.
VERY GOOD (VG)
The vinyl has been played many times, is still shiny and displays no major deterioration in audio quality. There are noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the packaging or extra items.
GOOD (G)
The vinyl has been played to such an extent that audio quality has deteriorated noticeably, there are mild scratches. The packaging or extra items, suffer from folding and scuffing of edges, with spine splits.
FAIR (F)
The vinyl is no longer shiny and has been played so much that the audio quality has deteriorated very noticeably. The packaging or extra items, suffer from severe folding and scuffing of edges, with spine splits.
