The Half Speed Masters v 2009 Remasters
Don't get me wrong. I think the new remasters sound great. They have done an excellent job of modernising the sound, and bringing all the instruments forward. However, there are some aspects of the original mixes that have been lost in the process. And, most importantly for me, they have also lost some of the sense of intimacy of the original mixes.
There is a depth to the sound of the half-speed master pressings that is missing from the new remasters. There is an intimacy to the vocals. On many tracks it sounds like the Beatles are in the room with you. There is a natural sound to their voices that has been lost in the latest remastering process. On the early records it sounds like you are sitting in the middle of studio 2 with them. The synths and strings on Abbey Road have a depth and dimension missing from the remasters.
The original mixes had subtlety. This half speed masters show that off sublimely. The half speed masters don't use compression or limiting, so it is as close to the mixes that the Beatles approved as you are ever going to get.
Although the remasters sound good, they still don't match the half-speed master versions.
As for this excellent copy of Abbey Road
The sleeve is in Ex+ condition. It has some minor wear around the edges and corners, but it is in really good shape. The spine is in excellent shape.
The record is also in Ex+ condition. No scratches, no needle wear, no needle marks. There are some light marks in the unused space in the run out area of the vinyl, possibly from a cleaning process. But it is nothing serious. And remember, this record is made of a superior vinyl technology ("super high definition vinyl"), so it will continue to sound excellent for a long time to come.
The label has some light spindle wear and a some slight discolouration due to age. But it is still in really good shape.

Overall, this is a very nice copy of this edition of Abbey Road and I'm sure you will enjoy it for many years to come.
This record has been graded visually so I cannot guarantee how it sounds.
