As you watch the plethora of Butcher Cover auctions on eBay, one has to wonder how many times some of these cardboard gems have been subjected to shipment. How many hands have touched these few (especially first state stereo versions) holy grails? I purchased this highly collectible version on a Saturday night in 1982 at the Capitol Records Swap Meet in Hollywood. It was handled by only me and for only the amount of time to place it in a thick plastic cover and carefully store it in a non-smoking, climate controlled darkened room in my home. It wasn't something that I would "wake up" to show off to my friends; it was something I thought I would never part with. Because prior to the Livingston reveal, this was the best copy that I had ever encountered. I now must sell my prized possession. Its passing among owners (and multiple handling and shipping) has been suspended for twenty-seven years. It still, mind you, is a forty-three year old cardboard based treasure; it's not perfect. There was a split in the top seam when I acquired the album which I commissioned a graphics expert to repair beautifully (photograph number eight). By way of disclosure, there can be seen slight discolorations at the edges of the album which happen through passage of time.
I purchased the album in "jacket-only" configuration. Unless it had been available to me in still-sealed condition, I would have removed the vinyl anyway so as to not impress its shape upon the jacket. It is being resold to you in that same configuration. I paid dearly for this baby all those years ago and my reserve price is far less than I feel I should go with. This is the real deal. It's not one of the multi-owner, multi-handled copies that has more miles on it than than an American Airlines AAdvantage Platinum business flyer. I will ship same day Express Mail domestically at my expense. Globally, I will credit the cost of the domestic postage toward your choice of shipping. The starting bid is unrealistically low for what the LP is worth, but it will keep the less serious from pitching frivolous bids and at the same time perhaps keep the Buy it Now option open for someone who simply craves this as I did - who can whisk it away for certain, shutting out all others. Let me clarify my answer to a question posed. (I was never good at counting hash marks on a ruler). The album width (given all caveats regarding human error and such) is between 12 and three-eighths and 12 and seven-sixteenths as shown is photo eleven. I apologize for my hasty posting and inaccuracy.
