The Beatles
"Please Please Me" Parlophone PMC 1202 Vintage, Rare Original 1963 1st UK Pressing on the Much Sought After Parlophone Black and Gold LabelIf you collect vintage original Beatles Lp's then this Lp needs little introduction. It is one of the most sought after Beatles Lp's in the world - an original UK 1st pressing on the short lived Parlophone Black and Gold label. This is it the Very First Beatles record simply titled "Please Please Me" Catalog number PMC 1202. This Mono record has survived remarkably well for its age. When these Lp's do show up they are generally in very played / worn condition, finding a great example is very rare.
This Lp has a stunning cover in VG+ (or better) condition with the only flaw is some very minor damage on the back cover upper right corner resulting from the original owner removing a sticker. The seams are solid the corners are nice and better still the front laminate is in excellent condition. The cover is a 2nd press E.J. Day cover with the Angus McBean photo credit moved slightly to the left on the bottom front right hand corner.
The record is a very early pressing with Side 1 Matrix numbers "XEX 421-1N" and the Mother/Stamper numbers are "1 GR", Side 2 Matrix numbers are "XEX 422-1N" with the Mother/Stamper numbers being "1 and T". The Side 1 label has an embossed letter T tax stamp and I assume the other letter was an M or a K. It looks like the other letter was punched out by the spindle hole. The labels are in very nice condition with all the print sharp and crisp.
The Parlophone Record Co. rim print is in Upper and lower case and the "Made In GT. Britain" is printed at the bottom of the label. The printing of the label name Parlophone and Long Playing is in GOLD INK and in excellent condition. Some wear at the spindle hole but nothing too distracting. The record will also come with the correct EMITEX lined inner sleeve in excellent condition.
The vinyl is in surprisingly good condition however there are two surface marks on the first track on Side 1 and Side 2 that creates a tick when played. On Side 1 it gets buried a bit by the hand clapping but it is there. On Side 2 at the very start of Love Me Do there is a pop and a small jump then it plays through the remainder of the song. The rest of the vinyl looks amazing and plays very well with some surface noise between tracks. The edges of the record are still nice and sharp!
