Description

THE BEATLES - 'BEATLES FOR SALE'

1964 UK *MONO* 1st PRESSING LP

This true 1st pressing carries the initial -3N/-3N matrices which were quickly replaced by the more common '-4N/-4N' cutting. There is little to tell between the two with the only significant difference being that on the -4N cut there is a significant drop-out at the end of 'No Reply' as John sings the final ..'cause you walked hand-in-hand..' which is not present on the -3N version.

The disc itself is a 1st-class example on the familiar yellow & black Parlophone label: PMC 1240

Both labels include the 'Sold in UK..' text & have 'Gramophone Co. Ltd..' rims.

A faint 'KT' purchase tax code is present in the centre of the side 1 label.

Housed in an outer laminated, inner-flipback gatefold mono cover.

Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' rice-paper lined inner-sleeve.

Matrix numbers: XEX 503-3N & XEX 504-3N

Stamper codes: 1/GRO & 2,5/PL

Disc weight: 152g

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT

A bright & clean pair with a few light spindle marks to the side 2 centre hole only.

Visual: VERY GOOD +

Clean & glossy playing surfaces with some light inner-sleeve removal/storage marks visible in strong daylight, but no scratches or any other significant surface marks. Close inspection directly beneath halogen light reveals no further blemishes or wear.

Play: EXCELLENT

This well-looked after & carefully played copy sounds fresh & powerful throughout without any significant deterioration to the sound quality or any major faults. My careful play check at volume picked up no groove/play wear or any clicks, pops or other such distractions on or between any of the track on this much maligned mono mix.

Cover

EXCELLENT -

This is an very respectable example of this fragile and easily worn cover. The delicate front left is flat & glossy with just a little top-edge wear but no heavy creasing. There is a little damage to the upper left corner but all others are fully intact with just tiny rubs to each. The rear panel is is glossy and unmarked with the inevitable light disc impression but no bends or creasing to any part. The inside of the gatefold is clean & black where it should be with no rubbing, writing or missing paper. There is a little damage to the top of the hing but the lower end is fully intact, as are both of the clean, white flipbacks. All seams of the rear pocket are unstressed and unsplit and the spine is uncrushed & white with a fully laminated and worded finish.

Inner-sleeve

VERY GOOD +

Clean & crisp with some unavoidable storage creasing, but no splits, tears or writing.
