The Beatles Get Back Book, from the Let It Be Box Set.
There are three known printing editions of the Get Back Book:
1. Inside covers are black, both front and back. Plus there are no copyrights on the copyrights page. This was a mistake.
2. Inside covers are black as in 1. There are now pasted in copyrights on the copyright page.
3. Inside covers are white, both front and back. Plus all the correct copyrights are printed on the copyrights page.
This copy of the Get Back book is #3. It has an excellent cover, both front and back, and an excellent spine. There are no loose pages, and it has fine sharp edges all around.
It comes with two copies of the Let it Be album, both of which have been found in the box set by some collectors. The covers are in very good condition, though one shows some wear and tear on edges and corners. One sleeve has the RED Apple logo on the back, while the other has the GREEN Apple Logo on the back. The albums are a 3U/2U copy and a 2U/3U copy: both in very good condition or better.
In effect here you have both the 2U/2U, and the 3U/3U pressings, but which came first after the initial 2U/2U: which side was changed first? Who knows?
So let’s explain how to decode the stampers on a UK EMI vinyl. Typically an original UK Beatles Let it Be record.
The Matrix numbers
This can be found on the inner/run off grooves typically at six o’clock and would have for example –2 endings an example of a matrix, would be YEX 773-2U and YEX 774-2U.
-1 indicates the first lacquer that was made, BUT there are NO Let it Be Albums pressed from the first lacquer.
-2 would indicate the second lacquer that was made –3 the third and so on!
While looking at the matrix numbers at six o’clock we can see a set of markings at three and nine o’clock.
At nine o’clock these are the Mother numbers, for example this could be a number #5. Another number here would indicate a Sub-Mother made from that numbered Mother: for instance, 2 4.
At three o’clock these are the stamper codes:
It is important to note that EMI used a code ‘’GRAMOPHLTD’’
G=1 R=2 A=3 M=4 O=5 P=6 H=7 L=8 T=9 D=0
So if for example our Beatles Let it Be had the letters ‘G R M’ at three o’clock, the stamper code would be G=1 R=2 M=4 STAMPER #124
So for the two albums for sale here we have the following matrix information:
Album One:
Side 1: Lacquer 3U: Mother 2, Sub-Mother 4, Stampers GHL (178).
Side 2: Lacquer 2U: Mother 3, Stampers GHO (175).
Album Two:
Side 1: Lacquer 2U: Mother 1, Sub-Mother 7, Stampers LL (88).
Side 2: Lacquer 3U: Mother 2, Sub Mother 4, Stampers GRP (126).
Both the Get Back Book and Let It Be Albums come with the following:
A CD-Rom of the Beatles Get Back Book, including ‘All You Need is Love’ mini-film , ‘Come Together’ mini-film, ‘Free as a Bird’ mini-film, ’Hey Bulldog’ mini-film and the whole of the ‘Let it Be’ film.
A CD containing a PDF of the Beatles Get Back Book, so that you don’t have to keep opening this copy to look at it!
They will be well packaged and only sent recorded delivery, to be signed for, and insured, hence the postage costs etc.
