The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night.

First pressing on the black and yellow Parlophone label. M/T tax imprint to spindle area denotes a cut off date of July 1963 according to some sources, although actual LP is credited as being produced in 1964.

Side One: XEX 481-3N - Side Two: XEX 482-3N.

Side One: RPO - Side Two: RLG.

Labels have "The Parlophone Company Ltd" upper case perimeter lettering and "Sold in UK" text just below the large yellow Parlophone lettering to top centre. "Recording first published 1964" text at nine o'clock on both sides.

A very clean and bright issue, and far better preserved than is the norm. Just a very few spider trace marks around centre spindle areas, indicating only a few plays. Vinyl surfaces are bright and glossy, and mostly free of any marks. There are just approx. three extremely light hairline scuffs visible, all of which are superficial. Other than this surfaces are clean and unmarked. Clearly a lightly and carefully played LP. Playback throughout is clean and free of background noise. Hard to even detect anything in the silent bands between tracks. A strong EX in UK grading.

Sleeve is laminated front with matt rear and visible external backflaps, and printed and made by Garrod and Lofthouse. Small mono logo to top right hand corner of front. Sleeve is unusually clean, a real beauty. The front is in bright and unmarked condition, and does not have that feathery texture that so many well handled Beatles LPs have. There are not even the usual light pinches and half moons that are found in these early LPs, and this is probably the best example I've ever owned, perhaps of any Beatles' sleeve. Spine areas are crisp and sharp, with just touches of whitening to tips. Entry side is well preserved and not feathered. A minute spot of wear and fraying to bottom right hand corner only, but this really is very light. Backflaps are intact and clean and tidy, although slight lifting from loss of adhesive to bottom right hand corner area. Sleeve is only really marred by some tan staining to rear, but nowhere is this particularly heavy or obtrusive. Otherwise a really super sleeve, and clearly very little handled and well stored the last forty or so years.

Housed in incorrect period purple hued EMI advertising inner sleeve, which is without tears or splits, although has a few browning spots.

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
