Artist THE BEATLES Title A Hard Days Night
Disc Size 12" LP Audio Format MONO Year of Release 1964 Label Parlophone (Black and Yellow) Catalogue Number PMC 1230 Matrix Number A

XEX 481-3N

Matrix Number B XEX 482-3N

This is a very interesting Beatles LP whose origins can't seem to be decided among the professional Beatles collectors I've spoken to!! This is either an Irish or a Danish pressing of "A Hard Days Night" from 1964. While it has the UK catalogue number, the UK label layout, "Parlophone Co." rimtext, and correct UK matrix numbers, there is no "Made In Great Britain" credit on the labels. Indeed, the labels themselves are subtly different in layout and credits - there are NO "Northern Songs" credits anywhere on the labels - which is very odd!

This LP should have "Sold In The UK" in the centre of the labels to correspond with the "Parlophone Co." rimtext, the only other Yellow and Black copy of this LP without the "Sold In..." text is the 1969 pressing (of which I have a copy for sale right now).

The sleeve is the main difference between the standard UK issue and this copy. The blue colour is a much lighter shade, and the blacks of the silhouetted headshots are here a brownish-red. The whole sleeve is also much flimsier than the UK issue, with this one having two flaps on the rear - although the front is laminated as the UK one. The credits on the rear of the sleeve below the "EMI Industries" text is also missing along with no G&L or EJ Day sleeve credits whatsoever!

This is a VERY odd LP which I've never seen before. The deduction it is Irish is because they had very similar label designs in the early 1960s though they aren't part of Britain - a possible reason as to why there is no "Made in Gt Britain" mark or any other British credit on the sleeve or vinyl. The flimsy sleeve pointed me towards the record possibly being of Danish origin as their sleeves were of similar quality along with yellow and black labels.

The inner sleeve is a paper "advertising" one - clearly displaying the Beatles first 2 LPs and their EPs. I would be pretty sure in saying this is a 1964 issue, as if it were later surely this inner sleeve would display a later LP or EP as well?

If anyone has further information or has seen this record before, please contact me! This is a *very* strange pressing - made much more desirable due to the very similar label designs to the UK issues.

I've never seen this LP before and aren't likely to see it again. Don't miss out on this opportunity to own a very rare version of this LP!!

Vinyl Visual: EX+
A couple of light marks over the surfaces but otherwise this has a very deep and clean sheen to it. Lovely quality vinyl!!

Vinyl Audio: EX
Some light background noise on the run-ins and in between tracks, but this isn't very noticeable and certainly doens't detract from the audio. No distortion and only very light audible crackles here and there.

Vinyl Labels: MINT-
Not a mark on them. As close to perfect as you'll find!!

Sleeve: VG+
There is some light overall browning to the rear and some creasing here and there. Considering how thin and flimsy this jacket is I'm surprised it's even holding together - but this one is!! No rips or tears. Interestingly - there is no spine visible! I don't mean that it's been flattened, there is actually no edge spine on this sleeve at all. It looks more like an EP sleeve if you see what I mean, which explains why there is no third flap on the rear of the sleeve.

Inner Sleeve: EX
"Sepia-Green Advertising" inner in great condition. No rips or tears. What makes this more interesting is, as I mentioned earlier, the adverts for other Beatles LPs and EPs - seemingly firmly placing this LP in 1964 and not being a repressing.
