Description
THE BEATLES - 'A HARD DAY'S NIGHT'
1968 UK 1st PRESS *STEREO* LP
**NEAR MINT & WITHDRAWN MATRIX**
This copy is unusual and rare in the fact that it carries a withdrawn '- 2' side 2 matrix.
Careful listening and waveform comparison on computer recording software reveals why. The opening snare crack on 'Anytime At All' on this - 2 cut is unquestionably shorter. The initial edit has cut into it slightly and blunted its attack impact.
Granted, this is a minor difference, but if you are familiar with this song the effect is very clear.
The '- 2' cut appears ONLY on this 1968 pressing. All subsequent pressings from 1969 to the late '70's all used the '-1' side 2 matrix.
This NEAR MINT 1968 UK 2nd stereo pressing is on the black & yellow Parlophone label: PCS 3058
Both labels include the 'Sold in UK..' text & 'Gramophone Co..' rims.
There is no tax/price code is visible on either label.
Housed in a front laminated 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed cover with the small stereo logo.
Complete with its original red & white EMI advertising inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: YEX 126-1 & YEX 127- 2
Stamper numbers: 3,4/OT & 1/AH
Just a single tiny spindle line to each label.
Visual: NEAR MINT
Both sides appear MINT when viewed in strong daylight, with marks or wear visible on either side.
Close & careful inspection directly under a halogen desk lamp reveals just some faint inner-sleeve removal marks on side 2 only, but no other wear.
100% flat both sides on the turntable with no dishing or warping.
Audio: NEAR MINT
This copy has been hardly, if ever, played & sounds throughout 'as new' - without any trace of audible wear.
Both run-ins and all bands play totally silently and without intereference.
Tough to find better.
Cover: NEAR MINT
This superb clean & strong example has been carefully & correctly stored since purchase in a non-smoking envorionment.
The front panel retains a pristine, unscratched laminate with just a single tiny spine wrinkle but no other creasing or any 'thumbnails'
