THE BEATLES - 'HELP!'
ULTRA-RARE 1969 UK **'ONE EMI BOX' MONO** LP
**& CORRECT, RARE LATE MONO COVER**
'Help!' was one of only three titles to make it onto the 1969 'One EMI box' label in mono. ('Please, Please Me' & 'Sgt Pepper' being the other two).
This short-lived label design appeared at the end of 1969 until being replaced by the 'Two EMI box' design sometime around 1972/3.
This copy is housed the rare cover without the 'mono' logo in the front upper right corner. However the rear panel carries the correct mono catalogue number.
Needless to say that copies of this issue were very limited and sold virtually nothing, making them extremely difficult to locate in any condition.
To illustrate its rarity, I have owned three copies of this pressing and all three have had same 'mother/stamper' numbers: 9/MDT & 1,8/ATM and although this copy is only on overall 'VERY GOOD' condition, it represents an extremely rare opportunity to acquire one of The Beatles rarest UK pressings.
This ultra rare 1969 MONO pressing is on the UK black & silver 'one box' EMI/Parlophone label PMC 1255
Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but carry 'Gramophone Co. Ltd..' rims.
There is no tax/price code visible on either label.
Housed in a front laminated, tri-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' mono cover without the 'mono' front logo.
Complete with its original white 'Patents..' inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: XEX 549-2 & XEX 550-2
Stamper numbers: 9/MDT & 1,8/ATM
As you can see, the side 1 has a small section of missing paper to the upper section, however the side 2 label is complete.
Visual: VERY GOODThe surfaces are bright and clean bearing just a few light fingernail scuffs and the occaisional light scratch under a halogen desk lamp.
There is one tiny (2mm) feelable mark on track 3 side 1, otherwise there are no other deep marks or scratches.
The disc lies 100% flat on the turntable without any dishing or warping.
Despite being played many times there is no major deterioration in sound quality.
There is some light crackle on the run-ins but the bands play quietly with just a few intermittant low-level soft 'ticks' audible.
Light groovewear is audible throughout during loud passages and there is one jump on track 3, side 1 - but no other audible faults.
This rare and correct cover for this issue displays moderate handling and storage wear but no major faults.
The front panel bears some creases to the spine and edges and small 'thumbnails' near the opening edge but is white and un-yellowed.
There is some laminate wear near to the spine area, but the opening edge is sharp and 'unfeathered' with no tears or missing paper.
The rear panel is clean with some minor discolouration but no serious marks or writing.
The lower 'flipback' shows some wear with the remains of dried adhesive tape glue but is complete and intact. All others are in good shape.
All the seams and the spine are strong with no signs of stress or splitting.
Strict visual & audible gradings under intense direct light & at volume on high-end audio equipment
