Released by APPLE UK in 1968, this Original UK STEREO First Issue Vinyl LP for John and Yoko's Experimental album 'Two Virgins', not surprisingly, caused a great stir when it was released in 1968! The general public were not quite ready for the controversial Nudity scenes on both the front and reverse of the sleeve - in fact the sleeve would probably raise quite a few eyebrows even now, some 40 years on!
The album never made the charts in the UK. Only 5,000 copies were pressed, now making it one of the most SOUGHT AFTER Lennon albums in the World today.
The First Issue Vinyl LP is on the Dark Green Apple Label, with Track Record logo, 'Sold in UK….' and 'Manufactured in the UK' label text.
The official side 1 matrix is SAPCOR 2A-1. Side 2: SAPCOR 2B-1. The side 1 stampers are: 1/GR. Side 2: 1/GM.
The Vinyl LP comes in its ORIGINAL Black Die Cut Inner Bag and is housed in its ORIGINAL, Fully Laminated Sleeve, featuring John and Yoko baring all on both sides! The reverse of the Stereo sleeve correctly displays the 'Apple Records May 1968', and 'Made in Merrie England'…printed text.
Both sides of the UNWORN, NEW looking record labels are in mint condition. Both sides of the vinyl disc are in NEW looking mint condition. There is a small area of ‘clouding’ to the vinyl to the edge of the record on side 2. This is simply a manufacturing imperfection and does not affect the sound quality in any way. The all Important sleeve is Visually the FINEST Two Virgins Sleeve that we have offered to date, with both sides in REMARKABLE near mint condition. This is a truly SUPERB Sleeve, FRESH, CLEAN and WHITE. All the edges and corners are SHARP and UNDAMAGED. Remarkably, there is NO bruising or bumps to any of the four corners, and only mild record indentation to both sides. The Unworded Spine edge is in PERFECT, UNDAMAGED condition. The front panel of the sleeve is FIRM, STRONG and FLAT with just the usual laminate lifting to the left hand edge. The reverse of the sleeve is in the same FINE near mint condition, FIRM and FLAT, with no more than a little laminate lifting to the right hand edge. (Please note that the laminate lifting is all too common with this album sleeve. In fact we have never seen one that does not suffer from this, which was due to the laminate being affixed too tightly around the sleeve during the manufacturing process). The Original black inner bag is also in GREAT SHAPE, with NO splitting or tearing around the die cut circle, no seam splits and no more than some mild inevitable creasing.
The record plays EXTREMELY WELL throughout, without any skips or clicks.
