READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
I recently took in a large collection of Beatles albums, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX. They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label. I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.
The vinyl is collectable on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split. Here’s one that’s a great, solid play copy.
Beatles LP 1963 Meet the Beatles! Mono First Pressing NO ASCAP OR BMI, VG!
Vinyl--- VG/VG. As collectors know, VG doesn’t mean scratched to shreds by some cat in heat. This copy has plenty of new shine, about 70% to 75% per side. But it also has light scratches that can’t be felt with the fingertip, and which are clearly visible under a bright light. It may play back with tics and an occasional pop. But it’s still a very playable record.
Plates--- G2/F3. Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.
Cover--- VG. First pressing cover has “BEATLES” in brown lettering, no George Martin producer credit on the back lower left corner.
Cover has moderately yellowed and has dirtwear. Spine has some flaked off slick. Top and bottom seams have shelfwear, but NO SPLIT SEAMS.
Labels--- VG++/VG++. Beautiful rare labels with no ASCAP or BMI. Labels have those beautiful 1963 cobalt blue Capitol domes and bottom perimeter print. Each side has light spindle marks, but none that have damaged the labels.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG. Original 1963 Blue/purple Capitol inner sleeve is present. Bottom seam has a 3-inch split, one top corner has a crease and a tear inside the crease.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: 3
This is a step or two up from a starter copy. Lots of light scratches, but more shine than scratches!
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
