Beatles LP Rock and Roll Music Philippines STRANGE MIRROR IMAGE STEREO MIX NM
Really strange copy of this LP. When I purchased it several years ago, I noticed that something was weird with the stereo mix. I pulled out my American copies of the “Hey Jude” and “Something New” albums, and A/B’d several songs. I quickly realized that ALL of the songs I sampled had their stereo mixes reversed from the U.S. issues.
According to my notes, I panned the stereo channels to just the left speaker, and played back-to-back the following songs with their U.S. counterparts:
Slow Down
Bad Boy
Matchbox
Revolution
The result is that elements on the U.S. albums that are in the right channel are in the left channel on this copy, and vice versa with the left channel. I took this album and the other two titles to a friend’s place yesterday, and did the same A/B experiment, and true enough…
Not sure how (or why) this happened, but if you want to hear completely backwards right-left channel versions of these tracks, this album delivers the goods!
Vinyl--- NM all four sides. They all look store-stock brand new.
Plates--- PCS 719 A/B/C/D (One clue to this copy’s mix is that it doesn’t use the British stereo YEX plates. Perhaps they used those tapes and mastered the plates backwards?)
Cover--- Pretty nice, not perfect. Structurally very solid, NO SPLITS inside or out. Philippine construction is not as good as the west, so it is on the flimsy side. Edge wear, mainly. But it’s still in really good condition.
Labels--- NM, all four labels. NO spindle marks. They all look freshly printed.
Inner Sleeves--- I bought this copy used, and at that time, there were no inner sleeves. I have provided fresh, generic white sleeves with die-cut holes.
If you collect Beatles records in the foreign market for their errors and anomalies, you should probably pick this one up.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)

(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
