20th century collectables is pleased to offer for sale this superb copy of the Beatles classic Rubber Soul.

As John Lennon once said ‘Rubber Soul is when it started to get interesting’. A great album with tracks such as ‘Norwegian Wood’, ‘Michelle’, ‘Girl’, ‘in My Life’ and many more.

The workload of the Beatles in 1965 was enormous. After finishing their 2nd American tour at the end of August 1965 they returned home and under pressure from EMI were compelled to write, record and produce an album in time for the Christmas market.

It’s an indication of their genius; for what they came up with inside those few weeks was the masterpiece – Rubber Soul. Recording finished in November of 1965 and discs were cut on 17th, 19th and 23rd of that month and rushed to the EMI pressing plant in Hayes where production immediately started. The finished article was delivered into the shops on the 3rd December 1965. These -4 matrix pressings formed part of the initial 1965 pressing run and were available on the first day of issue.

Visual: Side 1 EXCELLENT+ Side 2 EXC+/MINT-

Fresh looking vinyl which appears virtually unmarked in strong daylight. On closer inspection and under a strong halogen desklight there is some light marking caused by long term storage from the inner sleeve. There are some light superficial handling marks visible on side one but no scratches or visually offensive marks. This is clearly a disc which has been well cared for and has received only a few plays since new. I would estimate that side two has received only 5 or 6 plays in its entire life with side one maybe twice that number. A remarkably low amount for vinyl of this vinatge. The heavy duty disc lies 100% flat on the turntable.

Labels: EXCELLENT+

A superb set of labels. There are a number of spindle trails visible to each label visible when the record is angled towards the light. There is no wear around the centre hole and the labels retain virtually all of their original freshness. There is no wear to any of the silver lettering and it is clear by looking at these labels that the record has not been played many times. There is no writing to any label. The KT tax code is clearly visible on side 2.

Audio: EXC+/MINT-

There is some light surface noise audible between some tracks, however there is no groovewear or distortion to any of the music signals. Most tracks grade at mint, even the easily damaged inner most track ‘Michelle’ has very little to fault. The delicate tracks ‘Norwegian Wood’ and ‘Girl’ are undamaged and free from unwanted surface noise. A superb sounding disc. There are no loud pops or ticks and the record does not jump or stick.

Cover

EXCELLENT+

An original 1965 Garrod & Lofthouse patents pending cover an a great state of preservation. The front panel retains its high gloss laminate sheen and apart from some minor wear to the top right hand corner shows very little signs of handling. The rear panel is free from any writing and has little to no signs of ageing. All flipback are strong and fully intact. The spine is undamaged with the writing clearly visible. Overall a superb example of this iconic Robert freeman cover which is now 49 years old.

Original 1965 rice paper inner with no seam splits.
