READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

Beatles LP Rubber Soul 1st Pressing Stereo LP 1965 Columbia Consignment, EX Vinyl!

Collectors know that in 1965, MONO was outselling STEREO 4 to 1, because of the higher price charged for STEREO albums.  That goes doubly so for STEREO consigned copies.  In the main, whenever you find a first pressing STEREO copy, it will likely be pressed by Capitol, since consignment discs were pressed to help meet demand, rather than to be the main source of the pressings.

Secondly, STEREO-consigned copies were likely introduced during the second run of the first pressing, meaning that to date, there are no known copies of the STEREO-consigned “Rubber Soul” to use labels missing “The Beatles,” although MONO consignment copies do exist with true first-run labels.

Therefore, this is a first pressing STEREO-consigned copy.

Vinyl--- EX/EX.  Both sides are SO close to NM.  But they each have just one or two very minor blemishes that keep them from the coveted NM grade.  There are other graders who are not so strict, who would accept a NM grade for this copy.

Plates--- W10/ X17.  The Columbia plant used no insignia, and none appears in the dead wax.

Cover--- VG.  Although the cover presents extremely well with still-bright borders, the top seam has split about 4 inches.  Back cover is mainly nice and white, but it does have moderate yellowing down the mouth.  Top right corner has some fraying, which translates to the back cover, top left corner.

Labels--- Beautiful NM.  “The Beatles” appears on the labels.  The only blemish is a manufacturer’s crease on the Side 2 label.  Hard to photograph.  Otherwise brand new-looking, NO SPINDLE MARKS.  Thin-cut concentric groove closer to the outer edge of the labels come from Columbia lathes. 

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG.  Consignment plants in 1965 were supplied with the cream-colored Capitol inner sleeves, which have the words, “Capitol Records, Inc.” two layers deep all around the periphery.  No die-cut hole for the labels to show. 

Has the west coast thumb tab, as well as the LA job number printed in the bottom left corner.

This sleeve lies flat and presents well, however; it has a bottom center split about 3 inches long.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 7. An added bonus, you very rarely see this RIAA number!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
