READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Do you have a musician’s ear?  (Well, give it back, he’s been looking for it.)  But seriously, fokes…

In the same sense that mono mixes were different from the stereo mixes, some Record Club issues were also remixed.  This is one of them.  And the differences range from the obvious, like the backward guitar in “I’m Only Sleeping” not only coming in a lot earlier than on the stereo commercial release, giving us a completely unheard backward lead if you don’t have a Record Club copy, but also, the leads are subtly different.

Or the differences are subtle but revealing, like Ringo’s drums in “And Your Bird Can Sing.”  The commercially released stereo version keeps Ringo’s drum kit panned to the hard left.  But the Record Club version splits Ringo’s drums hard left-hard right during just the “When your prized possessions” and “when your bird is broken” sections, revealing that Ringo had overdubbed the open high hat slices.  I never knew that until I’d gotten a Record Club copy.

There are others, but I’m sure you’d love to explore if you have a good set of headphones.

For you fans without that fascination, the thing that you will notice right away is that compared to your commercial copy, this Record Club copy with A1 plates has a very hot, sizzling mix!

Vinyl--- VG+/EX.  Side 1 has 90% new gloss, but there are some (and I mean only some) very light marks that can be seen under normal light.  Side 2 is far better, with one angel hair that you need a bare bulb to see, and a few little other discrepancies.  A light dulling has occurred over the decades to both sides.

Plates--- A1/ A1.  Since these Record Club issues were given their own remix, they were also given brand new plates.

Cover--- VG++.  Structurally muscular-solid, which is desperately odd for these covers that were constructed out of recycled bird cage liners.  Retains mostly white on both sides with a little yellowing, but not much at all.  Bottom seam shows shelfwear, and the slick is cracked about 3 inches, but remarkably, the seam hasn’t split…yet.

Labels--- VG+.  White ring has occurred to both concentric rings, but other than that, they look pretty darned new! NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- A generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present, and in very nice condition.  There is a very small center bottom seam split, less than an inch.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 16

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
