Description

THE BEATLES - 'LOVE ME DO'/P.S. I LOVE YOU'
This 1st pressing of The Beatles' debut 45 dates from initial October 1962 release and differs significantly from the LP version.
It features Ringo on drums, unlike the LP version where he was relegated to the tambourine & replaced by session drummer Andy White.

It is on the original red & silver Parlophone label: 45-R 4949.

A genuine 'Factory Sample NOT FOR SALE' sticker is adhered to the 'Love Me Do Label'.

Both labels bear the 'Ardmore & Beechwood' publishing credits but omit the 'Made in Gt. Britain' text.

A faint 'MT' purchase tax code is present in the centre of the 'P.S. I Love you' label, with 'PZT' stamped in each run-out.

The 'P.S. I Love You' label is a rare variant which is missing the close parentheses on the 'Lennon-McCartney' songwriting credit.

Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17144-1N & 7XCE 17145-1N

Stamper codes: 1/AD & 1/GR

The disc is housed within its original 'beach-striped' Parlophone company sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT

Both are clean, vibrant & unfaded with minimal light spindle trails around each unworn centre and no writing or missing paper on either.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean and glossy but do bear many light wispy hairlines consistent with frequent turntable contact and play. However, there are no deep or feelable marks to either side, both of which flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality: VERY GOOD

This copy has been played many times and noticeable background crackle and an occasional light tick is present on both tracks. However, the the sound quality warm & detailed with a surprisingly rich bass response and I detected no significant groove/play wear or any jumps, repeats or any other major faults.

Cover: EXCELLENT

Clean & flat with light storagewear and no writing, tears or seam splits.
