The Beatles, Magical Mystery Tour. This is the original UK Stereo issue of their follow up album to Sgt Pepper initaially released in December 1967 as an EP and finally in 1976 as an LP! The Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd glossy gatefold cover is in EX Condition, The plain inner is in EX condition and the Record is in EX Condition. With great tracks from the Beatles including; 'I Am The Walrus & The Fool On The Hill', This has the original two box EMI/Parlophone labels and the -2 -1 Matrices & 1-2/-4 Stampers of the second press copies! Description
Original UK Parlophone label stereo press.This is the follow up to Sgt Pepper and the idea for a film/album came initially from Paul McCartney in April and was eventually filmed and recorded in the aftermath of Brian Epsteins death and the Beatles excurson to India in August 1967. Several singles from the project had already been released during 1967 and the band had decided to release the film's soundtrack as a double EP in November. Their US parent company wanted another album after Sgt Pepper's success and remixed several older singles with fake stereo to create a full length album instead. The film was panned on its release, although the EP sold well in the UK and in the US it went to No. 1 outselling all previous albums, although the film was never released in America!
In the aftermath UK record stores began to re-import the US albums and eventually EMI/Apple re-mastered the album in Germany in 1971 in true stereo. EMI finally released a UK cassette version in 1973, using the US fake mix and then again in November 1976 as an LP.......
This is the second press with the EMI/Parlophone labels with the large label index text (see 'The Beatles Collection' website). With the YEX-959-2-1-2- stamper HTM, YEX-960-1 stamper -4 HTM, of the early 2nd presses.
The Garrod & Lofthouse fully glossy gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some light storage rubbing on the inner cover. The plain company inner sleeve is intact and in EX condition. The spine is intact and fully readable. The US printed booklet is intact and in EX condition, still stapled in.
The record is in visually EX condition, with a few faint sleeve removal hairlines/scuffs and a couple of small needle marks/scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of faint spindle markings on each side. The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops, hiss or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very brief background noise during the run in grooves.
Overall, just a really great, loud & clear listen. The matrix nos. are; YEX-959-2-1-2- stamper HTM, YEX-960-1 stamper -4 HTM.
This is one of the early copies of the 2nd pressing of the original UK stereo issue of this classic 1967-1976 album.
