Description
The Beatles - Please Please Me stereo vinyl LP early edition
PCS3042 on Parlophone Yellow and Black label
I am selling my entire collection of vinyl LPs (all bought by me) mostly bought in the 60s and many on or very shortly after the day of issue - I have included purchase information on a "best recollection" basis! This is a private collection - I am not a dealer. I have attempted to describe accurately the record and its condition but as I'm not that well informed about the nuances of stampers, matrices and tax codes, please feel free to ask questions.
These records were only ever played on a good quality deck using lightly weighted Shure diamond stylus cartridges thus although many were well-played, play wear has been minimised.
Because I am aware that "condition is everything" I have tried to err on the side of caution in fully describing marks, scratches, etc. I have a 100% feedback record which I want to retain so I'm happy to offer a full money-back guarantee on all records sold at more than £10 if I have not accurately described the condition, although you would need to pay the return postage. I have bought special mailing envelopes (with stiffeners) to ensure that the records arrive in good condition.
So to specifics:
Artist or Band: THE BEATLES
Album Title: Please Please Me
Purchase Details: Bought in 1964 (early but not first edition)
Cat Number: PCS 3042
Mono or Stereo: Stereo
Track Listing:
Side 1: I saw her standing there; Misery; Anna; Chains; Boys; Ask me why; Please please me
Side 2: Love me do; PS I love you; Baby its you; Do you want to know a secret; A taste of honey; There's a place; Twist and shout
Labels: Parlophone – Yellow and black format. Has "The Parlophone Co Ltd", "Recording first published 1963" and attribution includes Northern Songs and Dick James Music. Side 2 has a K (tax code?) embossed near the spindle. Both labels in good condition with no marks or scratches on side 2 and a couple of minor white marks around the ring 1cm out from the spindle on side 1, otherwise this side is also in good condition. No obvious spindle marks on side 1 (light marking side 2) and only slight hole scuffing.
Matrix Nos: YEX 94-1 and YEX 95-1
Other stamped marks: Side 1: 1 at 9-o-clock and GO at 3-o-clock. Side 2: 1 at 9-o-clock and T at 3-o-clock
Cover Information: Single format, laminated on the front. Has stereo on the top right front and use New Emitex record cleaner advert on the back. Photo has Angus McBean credit. Printer's credit says "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents pending". Has "Recording first published 1963" under track listing.
Front & Lamination: Lamination is still in good condition. There are three small creases near the right edge which are largely inconspicuous but not invisible, a small cease 1cm long at the top a similar one at the bottom and two similar on the spine - again these are largely inconspicuous but not invisible. There is no peeling or dry areas and only one 5mm dent near the P of Please at the top. One 1cm black mark (looks like inky fingerprint but only just visible on photo) 2/3 down near right edge. Considering its age, I think this front looks very good!
Cover Back: The back has yellowed slightly and being unlaminated has picked up some dirt overall, especially around the flap edges. There are a couple of small marks (a 7mm yellow stain and a 2mm dark spot) plus 2 1cm spine creases on the flaps but otherwise the condition is really not bad for over 40 years old!
Top Edge: Unworn.
Bottom Edge: Unworn.
Right Edge: Very slight feathering wear only - no nicks, tears or scratches.
Spine and Text: Very good - not crushed.
Corners: Slight scuff wear on all corners.
The Inner Sleeve: Original vintage tracing paper lined type with the ‘Emitex’ and ‘Important - take good care of your microgroove records’ text. Clean and untorn or split. Slight creasing and one 3mm tear where record is inserted. Slight crease of plastic lining visible in window.
Vinyl Condition: Side 1 has a small number of light scuff marks, one long surface mark (looks like a very light scratch) and one more obvious 8mm scratch on track 7 though none of these are sounding. Side 2 also has a couple of scuff marks and a couple of longer surface marks though none are sounding. I have played this record and the sound is generally good except for Please Please Me which has noticeable distortion through play wear.
