Beatles Please Please Me - Rare 3rd press LP Mar 1963

This is the genuine and rare "third pressing" of Please Please Me - identified by the ABSENCE of the words "Recording first published 1963" on the left of the spindle hole between the "XEX 421" and the number "1"  (see blank space in the photo on the left).

This "third press" LP, sometimes called the "transitional" pressing is rarer than the earliest black/gold pressings of Please Please me  (and that is according to the Beatles museum, not  according to me.) 

This LP also comes with an original "black/gold" outer cover.  This cover is identified by the positioning of the text on the far right on the bottom of the front cover.

Please/please me 1963 History

The first two pressings in March 1963 were on the black/gold label, then as record demand exploded in 1963, production changed to yellow/gold 4th (and most common) pressings of Please please me.

In between, for only a short period of time came the 3rd pressing, soon terminated as mistakes had been made in the labelling.  

The 3rd press LP is most easily identified by the ABSENCE of "Recording first published 1963" to the left of the spindle hole of the LP.

* Catalogue number PMC 1202 (mono)
* The original yellow/black label
* Identifier XEX 421-1N and 422-1N
* Mother/stampers 1GT and 2RL
* "Sold in the UK" is missing
* All rights of the manufacturer message.... starts with "The Parlophone Co..."
* Large MONO on front of the cover
* Dick James credits for Please please me and Ask me Why
* EX- play grading and sound quality, visually VG/VG+

Outer Sleeve has

* The text "photo; Angus Mcbean" is at the FAR RIGHT of the bottom of the cover.  (As on black/gold album covers only.)  On the yellow/gold 4th pressing and all later issues this text is about an inch further to the left.
* Printed/made by Ernest J Day
* Very good condition; completely intact, no writing, the outer edges are scuffed particularly along the bottom edge, and there is some brown discolouration of the unlaminated paper on the rear.

Inner Sleeve

* Emitex sleeve.
* Excellent completely undamaged condition.
*  Semi-opaque (not clear) polythene lining.

VISUAL AND PLAY GRADINGS

Both sides play with no hops, no jumps, no sticks or any other unwanted noises.

 The vinyl is visually rated very good as  there is surface rubbing and a number of surface scratches, probably done by careless fingernails. These were all found to be light and superficial, and on play it was found that none of the markings were deep enough to produce ticking or clicking  on the sound track.
Side 1 - visually VG+ . Play graded as EX-There were no loud ticks or clicks or crackle or other background noises on any of the tracks.  Two quiet clicks noted in gap between tracks 3/4 and 1 quiet click between 6/7
Side 2 - visually VG , several longer but superficial surface markings.  On play there were no detectable flaws apart from 2 clicks in the gap between tracks 1/2.
