1963 UK *GOLD LABEL* MONO 1st PRESSING LP

This true 1st mono pressing of this historic album dates from the week of release in March 1963 and is in mono: PMC 1202

The labels are the of the initial gold & black Parlophone variety with a distinctive 'ridge' just inside the perimeter of each.

As an initial 1st pressing, the publishing credits for tracks 1 & 2 on side 1 and 4 & 6 on side 2 are credited to 'Dick James Mus. Co.'

The side 1 label bears genuine EMI red & white 'Factory Sample - Not For Sale' sticker.

A 'WOZT' purchase tax code is visible around the side 1 centre hole.

Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N

Stamper codes: 1/H & 1/H

Disc weight: 155g

Housed in a correct, early front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme lower right corner - beginning beneath the final 's' of Songs'.

Complete with an original 'Use Emitex..' poly-lined inner-sleeve.

Labels: VERY GOOD

Both labels are clean and all of the delicate gold print is intact and unworn. There are however some light scratches and some wear to each centre hole, but no writing or missing paper.

Visual: GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean but do display a number of noticeable surface marks together with several light scratches in daylight - none of which are deep or 'feelable'. Slight 'groove-whitening' is also visible. Close examination of both sides directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals many wispy paper-type hairlines consistent with frequent play but no further major blemishes. It does have a slight uneven edge when playing, but this is not enough to affect sound or play.

Play: 1. VERY GOOD  2. VERY GOOD -

Although played many times, the sound remains very strong with no significant deterioration. My careful play-check at volume found no heavy groove/playwear on any track, just some light background audible during some quieter passages and between tracks. Side two is a little more worn but there are definitley no heavy clicks, pops, jump or any other major faults or wear anywhere.

VERY GOOD +

This clean & correct example displays light handling & storagewear commensurate with its 47 years, but no major faults. The front panel is bright & glossy with no major creasing or wear to the laminate. All corners are in good shape with just a small bump to the upper left. There is 5mm tear to the front & rear opening edges but they are otherwise clean & unworn. The rear panel is clean & bright and free from any writing or missing paper. There is a little wear to the flipback in the lower right corner but all others are undamaged and intact. Both seams are smooth with no missing or flaking laminate and the spine is fully worded and undamaged.

General handling & storagewear with some age-toning but no writing, tears or seam splits.
