1963 UK 2nd *GOLD LABEL* MONO PRESSING LP

This early pressing dating from a few weeks after release bears the second variant of the gold & black Parlophone label: PMC 1202

The publishing credits for tracks 1 & 2 on side 1 and 4 & 6 on side 2 are credited to 'Northern Songs Ltd.'

(Initial 1st pressings credits the publishing of these tracks to 'Dick James Music')

Unusually, there is no purchase tax code visible in the centre of either label.

Housed in a correct, early front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme lower right corner; beginning beneath the final 's' of Songs'.

Complete with an original 'Use Emitex..' poly-lined inner-sleeve.

As you can see, this is a sparkling, clean & unworn set with no wear or damage to any of the delicate gold print on either label. Apart from a small fingermark-type blemish on the side 1 label, there is very little to fault on either.

Visual: VERY GOOD +

Both playing surfaces are extremely & glossy with side 1 bearing just three small fingernail scuff lines together with a longer one which covers all tracks. However, none are deep or feelable beneath my fingertips and do not affect sound or play. Side 2 bears two similar, smaller marks together with the only feelable scratch I could find on the entire LP - it measures just 2mm and lies on track 6 of side 2. Close examination directly beneath my powerful and unforgiving halogen desk lamp reveals just a sparkling rainbow gloss together with a few harmless wispy inner-sleeve removal hairlines but no additional significant marks or wear. Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable without any dishing or warping.

Play: 1. VERY GOOD  2. VERY GOOD -

This copy has received frequent but careful play and my careful playcheck found no major deterioration to the sound quality. On side 1, there is slight playwear on 'I Saw Her Standing There' and some 'swishing' noises audible between tracks, but no other significant signs of wear on any of the remaining tracks on that side. Some light background 'hiss' is present throughout side 2, and is most pronounced on the bands between tracks. Apart from four clicks on 'There's A Place' due to the aformentioned scratch, I did not find any other such distractions or faults anywhere.

Cover

GOOD

This correct example is a little tired with general handling/storagewear but fully intact. It bears a bright & clean front panel is bright & clean which displays several light handling creases but no heavy creases or bends. There is some wear to all corners and a few tiny pieces of missing laminate to the front opening edge. The rear panel displays is generally clean but as you can see, has a small section of missing paper to the edge, together with a few small crosses aside some of the tracks and a small name written in the upper right corner. There is some flaking of the laminate of the seams but no splits or stresses to either. The spine is fully laminated & worded.

Inner-sleeve

EXCELLENT

Clean & white with a little storage creasing but no writing, seams splits or tears anywhere.
