THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
1963 UK MONO 1st PRESSING LP
**NEAR MINT GROOVED BLACK & GOLD LABELS**
This Excellent & rare 1963 1st mono pressing is on the UK black & gold Parlophone label: PMC 1202
Both labels bear a distinctive 'groove' which appeared only on very early pressings.
(However this does not indicate a Decca or contract pressing.)
They carry the 'Dick James...' publishing credits for songs: 1, 2, 6 & 7 on side 1; and 4 & 6 on side 2.
The early 'ZT' tax/price code is visible in the centre of the side 1 label.
Housed in a correct, front laminated, tri-flipback 'E.J. Day' mono cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme lower right corner.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N
Stamper numbers: 1/H & 1/H
A rare & oustanding set with no marks, paper imperfections, writing, touch-up or missing paper.
Visual: EXCELLENT
Extremely clean & bright surfaces which retain their original deep gloss shine undulled by careless handling or improper storage.
Viewed in strong daylight, a few very faint & light fingernail scuffs are visible but no scratches, blemishes or other marking to either side.
Close inpection beneath a halogen desk lamp reveals no more than a few wispy paper hairlines & no other significant visible wear.
Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable with no signs of dishing or warping.
Audio: VERY GOOD MINUS
Carefully but frequently played, there is a period of hiss on both run-ins & some groovewear is present throughout.
The wear is most notable on the 1st track on each side but all bands play very quietly and there are no clicks, pops, jumps or repeats anywhere.
Cover: GOOD
The front panel is bright and clean with some general edge wear & light creasing but no major faults.
Some rubbing & missing paper to the corners but just minor wear to the opening edges which have no tears or 'feathering'.
The rear panel is clean with just light handling discolouration but no writing or missing paper.
There is some missing paper to 3 flipback corners but the spine is clean & intact with all the lettering present & undamaged.
Strict visual grading in daylight and directly under a halogen desk lamp.
All discs are carefully play graded in their entirety on a Rega P9 deck with an Ortofon Kontrapunkt 'A' cartridge.
