About My Vinyl
I have been a collector since 1968 when I was 12 years old, since that time I have purchased somewhere in the neighborhood of 15,000 LP's. I am the original owner of this LP or I purchased the album used when I worked at Moby Disc Records In L.A. when I was a kid. I take good care of my albums, they have been in a pet free, smoke free home. In some cases I have only played these LP's once or twice to record them to Reel-To-Reel tape and have listened to the tape instead of the LP.
I have play tested every track of every album (except for LP's that are sealed) so I can list extactly what condition the album. I have used the following system to test all of my LP's a Clearaudio turntable, with Benz Ruby Cartridge. You will not see any VG++++++ or M------ ratings so you know what you are getting.
My Ratings Explained (I try to use the Goldmine standards when rating my records):
Vinyl
Mint (M) • New and still sealed NM • Record handled with extreme care, but has some small flaw, such as a scuff, or one very slight click (not a skip). EX • Very quiet maybe a couple very quiet pops and clicks. VG+ • Very quiet except for a few very quiet pops and clicks. VG • Quiet except for some light pops and clicks and maybe some surface noise. VG- • Acceptable with some pops and clicks and some surface noise. G+ • Not the best, a good space holder until you find a better copy. G • Will have a fair number of pops and clicks, selling it only becuase it is in some way special, rare, from the 50's, 60's or early 70's.
Covers
Mint (M) • New and still sealed NM • LP handled with extreme care, but has some small minor flaw. EX • Cover is close to like new with maybe a very slight wear VG+ • Cover is in very good condition some light wear on the front and back covers, might have some wear on the seams or a very slight split seam. The spine will be readable and have no splits. VG • Cover is in good condition, some wear on the front and back covers, there is most likely some wear on the seams, but the spine is readable. VG- • Cover has wear on both the front and back covers. There will be wear on the seams, parts of the spine will be unreadable. G+ • Not the best, there will be a lot of wear on the front and back covers. The seams will most likely be split. The spine will most likely be totally unreadable. G • Will have much wear, rips, heavy wear spots. The seams will be split. The spine will be ripped and unreadable. Selling it only becuase it is in some way special, rare, from the 50's, 60's or early 70's.
Since I play test every album, I don't rate how a record looks visually. I have seen albums that have many visual scuff and scratch marks that play beautifully and many albums that look perfect that have so many clicks and pops that they are a total waste. So I think it is more important how the record plays, not what it looks like.
Before play testing the album, I wash it using my AcousTech Ultra Vacuum Record Cleaner and Disk Doctor Cleaning solutions. I then zap them with my Zerostat anti-static gun and place them in a new anti-static record sleeve (Don't worry I leave the original sleeve with the record).
Why am I selling? Well my wife and me have decided to downsize our life since our kids are grown and it is time to let some of the stuff I have collected over the years go and since the vinyl takes up a lot of space and weighs a ton it is the first to go.
