Description

The Beatles by Richard Avedon - Original 1967 Posters from the Daily Express

These four individual posters of The Beatles are original Limited First Edition prints, issued in the UK by the Daily Express newspaper in 1967.

As most people now recognise, these polarized prints by the renowned US photographer Richard Avedon, are iconic images from the psychedelic era of pop music.

Of the known first-edition prints (including those from the Stern and Look magazines) the Daily Express set hardly ever appears for sale.

Size:  Each poster is approximately 19" x 27" inches.  (See the 12 inch rule in the pictures. This gives you some idea of their size).

Printer:  Waterlow & Sons Ltd, England.

Condition of prints:

  • Each print has been stored flat and never been folded.
  • They are not linen backed and are in a ‘used but age defined’ condition; that is: they still have the thumb tack holes in each corner, evidence that they hung on my bedroom wall for a couple of months in 1969 before I replaced them with a poster from the film Easy Rider.  Sorry, I didn’t know any better then!).
  • John and Ringo have some evidence of tape marks on the rear.
  • John has two small 1cm edge cuts.
  • All other edges are still sharp with only minor edge wear.

Despite signs of genuine age, these prints still look magnificent.  If framed carefully, all pin holes and edge marks would be hidden.

Will be posted in a secure tube and insured if required.
