READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

Beatles’ Second Album First Press LP Both Slicks Misseated, RARER Labels, UNPLAYED Shrink!

Very special error cover and rare label first pressing.  I bought this copy mostly open, but still sealed. The seal down the mouth had been split open about 2/3 of the way, probably to see which pressing it was. I went ahead and opened it, and was astonished that this is the last 1967 first pressing label out of Jacksonville.

The label text is very close in against the playhole.  Small Capitol logo in the bottom perimeter is at the 6 O’clock position.  There was a second first pressing Jax label variation where the label text was moved to the extreme further out away from the playhole, also a late 1967 pressing. This was the variation that was used for the Jacksonville 1968 “Subsidiary of…” labels and the small Capitol logo was moved to the 5 O’clock position.  So, that one was a little more available in two pressings.

Both late first pressing label variations were very short-lived. But this first pressing 1967 variation was only available for an incredibly short time, vanishing completely before the 1968 “Subsidiary of…” labels went into use, using the wider spaces, and therefore extending its availability to the public.

See Compere Photos.

Vinyl--- NM/NM.  I’ve never played this copy, and neither has anyone else.  Store stock new vinyl.

Plates--- W2/W2.  Machine-Stamped Letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in

Cover--- EX. Cover is still in shrinkwrap, tight all the way around.  NO TEARS.  Light dirtwear trapped under the shrink.  Front slick is the cream-colored slick, as opposed to the usually white ones.

Front slick is so dramatically misseated that at its widest point near the spine, there’s a one-inch gap showing.  Back cover is so misseated that the top tagline has slidden over to the top seam of the front cover. The black dot and “File Under The Beatles” disclaimer are also awkwardly partially covered.  See photo.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Both labels look store stock newly-printed.  Full, bold colors and NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Inner Sleeve--- VG+.  Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present. This probably accounts for the partial open seal being so long. The previous owner couldn’t see the record label. Sleeve has yellowed, even inside the sealed cover.  One tiny side seam split, half a centimeter long.  Light record outdent, but no wrinkling from handling.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original inner sleeve en route.

RIAA--- 9. This is a testament to just how late this first pressing is. 9 covers were printed up in late 1967 in anticipation of the 1968 inventory of the new “Subsidiary of…” label variation.

**It’s assured that you will NEVER see this rarest first pressing label variation again in this condition.  If you’re in need of this one for your collection, there is simply no such thing as an upgrade.**

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

Note:  All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.

CAUTION!  There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids.  A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.

Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
