Beatles, Second-state butcher cover, disc and inner slv set, mono, Indiana / LA

Beautiful, authentic second-state butcher cover printed at Imperial Packing Co., Inc., in Indiana (code no. 6), expressly for Los Angeles pressings; trunk slick likely applied at Modern Album's Indianapolis plant. Original, perfectly matched, L. A. Yesterday And Today disc (Capitol T 2553, ✻) and tangerine inner sleeve included, all bagged separately. Released June 1966 [Spizer CAP 2553.MC2 / CAP 2553.MC2PO]. Altogether, I would grade the cover VG.

Front of cover would show a practically flawless M-; perfect for framing. Clearly shows Ringo's "V" and knee, and spine edge shows underlying slick exposed up to 2 mm (1/ 16"). No attempt to peel, so outer slick is fully intact. Front shows no woc or creases, very light disc impression, no unsightly underlying glue rings; light 1/2" and 1" wrinkles from top edge; bottom of trunk and George's hair do show shelf wear; otherwise extremely clean but for dings up to 1/4" on each corner. No degradation from light.

Opening edge completely clean. 

Top edge has 1/4" split at opening and completely worn 1/2" at spine edge. 

Spine has some flaking at both ends; leading "YE" in title partially obscured, as is most of the catalog number; slick completely gone from bottom 1/4" of spine.

Bottom edge has some light flaking and 3.25" split at opening side. Back cover marred by three (cleanable?) crayon figures, each about 1/4" x 1/2"; disc impression ranges from very light to moderate; all text, including Imperial's "6" mark, fully legible; three corners a bit distressed, but otherwise, edges are clean; two light 1" wrinkles near spine, from top and bottom; moderate 1/4" dent at 10 o'clock, 2" from opening edge, and one lighter 1/8" dent on opening edge.

Disc [Spizer CAP 2553.MR1B], with EMI London's legit mono mixes of all tracks, without input from Dave Dexter, VG+: labels appear nearly flawless; perfectly printed and aligned; no wol or sol; no discernible wear; there may be one light instance of spindle burn. Vinyl has fewer than ten marks, all superficial, on A-side; more superficial hairlines and other marks, including paper scuffs, on B-side; some lustre remains.    Runout markings: T-1-2553 - F-19 •   1   ✻   /   T-2-2553 - F-21 •   1   ✻

1966 Inner sleeve, PE [Protective Envelope] 12-2F, VG: all corners and edges sharp; no wos, sos or tears; some glue bleed-through from inner flaps; no disc impression or ringwear, but light 4.5" crease at one bottom corner, very light 2" crease near one upper corner, some very light wrinkling otherwise, especially in top 1/8"; one 2.75" seam split at bottom.

M- is my highest grade, and is applied to New Old Stock, as I had direct access to the contents of manufacturers' cartons from the mid-1970s onward.
