Description
The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 'Fourth Proof'
Catalogue: PMC 7027 (Parlophone Records)
For sale is an original 1st pressing of the 1967 Beatles LP, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The recording is in MONO. This is a very rare 'Fourth Proof'
It has the original gatefold sleeve printed by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.
This is an original UK pressing, in original condition featuring the rarest known variant of this record.
This unique variant of this remarkable album features a pre-production sleeve. After the first Three Proof sleeves , the Fourth Proof sleeves were passed around at EMI for final agreement. It is believed 40 - 50 were only produced and only a small handful made it into the public market.
There are a few unique printing differences from a normal production sleeve which I have checked with a copy of a 'normal' production 1st Press Mono sleeve:
1. A fourth Proof and 'AR' and 'D 1321' (with an additional number cut-off) are printed on the inner gatefold of the sleeve. Apparently AR is the designers initials and the number is the catalogue number of the printers Garrod & Lofthouse.
2. The rear of the sleeve features the text 'Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd' with additional text 'Patents Pending'
3. George's jacket seems Pink in colour, but on the standard sleeve it is Red
4. John's jacket appears Yellow in colour, but on the standard sleeve it appears as a Green colour
Additionally it features:
Original red psychedelic inner sleeve .
Original cut-out insert.
Matrix and other run-off groove notations:
Side 1: XEX 637-1 Stampers: RTM
Side 2: XEX 638-1 Stampers: ROL
Record sleeve is in in VG+ condition. There are no rips or tears. There is minimal edge wear to the openings. Both corners on the spine have some minor denting and there is some minor damage to the spine which I have tried to show on the photos. Laminate is in excellent condition and shows no signs of creasing. No names have been written on the sleeve.
Record is excellent. Plays with minimal noise except for two clicks on 'She's Leaving Home' and 'Lovely Rita' and has slight visible paper scuffs which do not affect play. Labels are clean with no names and have 'Sold in UK. Subject to Resale Price Conditions, See Price Lists' text on both sides.
The additional cut-out insert is in excellent condition. There is 1 inch tear along the bottom of the inner sleeve - otherwise very good condition.
Nice original 1st Press Mono example of this classic LP with the very rare 'Fourth Proof' sleeve. Any questions just ask.
Happy bidding!
