TITLE: SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND – FIRST PRESSING – 1967

CATALOG #: Capitol MAS-2653 (MONO)

COVER: FIRST PRESSING (MONO) with NO Maclen Music or NEMS" on the back cover.

RECORD:  WEST COAST “LA” FIRST PRESSING with “Star” in trail-off area.

LABELS: WEST COAST COLORBAND with “A LITTLE HELP…” Misprint.   

You’re looking at a RARE MONO COPY of this historic 57 YEAR OLD ALBUM with a NEAR MINT VALUE of $850.00! 

The reason for its scarcity is that Mono was being phased out in America in late 1967. Mono copies of this title are significantly rarer than their Stereo counterparts because not many were being pressed by Capitol at this point. This made Stereo copies of the first pressing of this album about 3 times more common than mono copies. The fact that it is also a WEST COAST PRESSING from the Los Angeles, California Plant makes it even more scarce. 

ALBUM CONDITIONS

GATEFOLD COVER: (VG)

Front No ring wear. There is some wear and chipping along the spine and the bottom seam does show some fraying. There is a hole punched all the way through near the top right corner that is either a “Close Out Marking,” or from a “Retailer Price Sticker.”  Otherwise, the Front Cover looks pretty good.  (SEE IMAGES.)

Rear Just the slightest hint of ring wear that can only be seen when viewing it at an angle under a strong light. There was a 4 inch split at center of the bottom seam that I repaired with Clear Acid Free Tape. I did the same thing to the 5 inch split at the top of the open end.  These repairs don’t take away from what is otherwise a pretty decent looking copy of this historic cover.  (SEE IMAGES.)

INTERIOR GATEFOLD: A fantastic looking portrait of the Fab Four with just a hint of darkening at the edges of the yellow section. There is that previously mentioned hole coming through on both sides. A 3.5 inch split in the middle of the Interior Spine was also repaired with tape. (SEE IMAGES.)

SPINE: This gatefold spine is a solid one. The white background has aged somewhat, but its black text is fully intact and perfectly legible. There was some fraying along the center rear edge of the spine that I repaired with 4.5 inches of tape in order to keep the spine intact.   (SEE IMAGES.) 

RECORD: Looks (VG) Sounds (VG+)

VINYL:  Play tested.  No skips.  Has a few scuffs and light scratches, but it  plays really nice with minimal surface noise. 

LABELS: Both labels look great with only some barely visible spindle marks on them. Side 2 does have some discoloration in the rainbow band.  (SEE IMAGES.)    

SLEEVE: Comes in generic sleeve.

Cut-Out Sheet: Comes with the original CUT-OUT SHEET in very good condition. (SEE IMAGES.)

NOTE: Record grading is very subjective, so be sure to inspect all the images carefully and decide for yourself.  Also be aware that some imperfections that are visible in the images may not be listed in the descriptions. If you have any questions, please contact me before you bid. 

*** RECORD ALBUM and SINGLES SHIPPING: All records will be securely shipped in sturdy cardboard mailers. The records will be removed from their covers and original inner sleeves and placed in acid-free paper or poly sleeves. The cover will be put in a loose-fitting polyethylene sleeve. The cost of these shipping supplies are paid for by yours truly,  the seller.
