Description

THE BEATLES - 'SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND'

Arguably the best sounding mono pressing of this album, this unworn UK MONO copy dates from late 1969.

Pressed in a single small batch, the disc carries the short-lived '1-EMI-box' Parlophone label: PMC 7027

Both carry the 'Made in Gt. Britain' text & have 'The Gramophone Co. Ltd..' worded rims.

Matrix numbers: XEX 637-1 & XEX 638-1

Stamper codes: 2/MOG & 01/MOA

Vinyl weight: 144g

The disc is housed in an even shorter-lived, rare cover variant which carries both mono AND stereo catalogue number in the upper right corner of the rear panel.

The cover is otherwise a fully laminated, 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed gatefold cover wide inner flipbacks and regular width spine.

It is complete with its original plain white 'Patent No.1,125,555.' inner-sleeve & unused cut-out sheet.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT

Both are clean & bright with a moderate amount of light spindle trails around each unworn centre hole, but no major blemishes or wear.

Visual: EXCELLENT +

Remarkably clean, deep-gloss playing surface which are immaculate in strong daylight and totally free from any surface marks or wear of any kind. Closer inspection beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals little more than a few harmless wispy paper hairlines form the inner-sleeve and a sparkling rainbow shine. Both sides of this extremely well looked-after disc lie 100% flat on the turntable.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +

This superb sounding copy has received a number of very careful plays on top-quality equipment and happily the sound throughout remains clean, clean and unworn. My single careful play-check at volume found no evidence whatsoever of any groove/play wear on any track or either channel or any clicks, pops or ticks anywhere. In fact, apart from a hint of normal vinyl background on 'She's Leaving Home' and the final piano-fade-out, the entire album plays without any audible distractions or fault and will not disappoint.

Cover: VERY GOOD +

A respectable example of this rare variant which bears light handling & storagewear without any major faults. Both front & rear panels are clean and glossy with just a small handful of light 'thumbnail' wrinkles and minor storage rubbing. There is light wear also to the lower corners and front opening edge but no tears or feathering anywhere. The inside of the gatefold is as bright & clean 'as new'. There is some wear to the laminate & a 2.5cm streess to the lower seam of the front pocket but no other significant faults or wear.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT

Clean & flat with just a few faint handling wrinkles but no writing, tears or seam splits.

Cut-out sheet: MINT
