READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

Beatles’ Story LP 1968 UNCONFIRMED “Subsidiary of…” Variation on Disc 2 BOTH Sides, NM!

“The Beatles’ Story” and “Magical Mystery Tour” are the two toughest titles to find on the “Subsidiary of…” Capitol label to begin with.  By 1968, “The Beatles’ Story” was not very much in demand, because we all knew their story so well, and “Magical Mystery Tour” had just been issued for the Christmas season of 1967, and had already seen its bloom in sales just a few months earlier.

An easy 99% of the copies that you can find of “The Beatles’ Story” will have the smaller font and text layout, because both east coast and west coast plants used the same label layouts.  See compere photo.

This very early run from the east coast used straight transfer labels from the first pressing.  And in fact, the only other copies I’ve seen that uses this variation had the “Subsidiary of…” disclaimer on either side 2 or side 3.  This is the only copy I’ve ever seen in 50 years of collecting, which has the disclaimer on both sides.

To date, I’ve never seen nor heard of a copy with the disclaimer on either or both sides of Disc 1.  I doubt very strongly that they exist.

Vinyl--- Configured Sides 1&4 and 2&3.  EX/EX.  NM/NM.  Sides 1 and 4 each shine like brand new, except that each side has just one extremely light line that wasn’t there at the factory.  Sides 2 and 3 have one or two extremely light lines confined to just the dead wax.  All four sides shine so much like brand new that an inexperienced grader wouldn’t be wrong if they listed the entire set as NM.  I’m not kidding.

Plates--- Configured Sides 1&4 and 2&3.  W5/W3.  W3/W5.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.

Cover--- Strong VG.  A structurally solid cover.  Front and back have moderate ringwear and dirtwear, but NO SPLIT SEAMS OR POCKETS.

Gatefold--- VG+.  Better than the covers, NO SPLIT CENTER SEAMS.

Labels--- Configured Sides 1&4 and 2&3.  EX/EX.  EX/EX.  In that order.  Each label looks bright and sharp with the exceptions of a few light spindle marks per side.

Sides 1 and 4 have beautiful first-pressing labels.  Side 4 has a manufacturer’s defect, where the gloss and ink did not take to the label just under the rainbow at the top.

Sides 2 and 3 have the “Subsidiary of…” disclaimer.

Capitol Inner Sleeves--- VG/VG.  Generic white inner sleeves with no die-cut holes for the labels to show are present.  Sleeve 1 has a tiny 1/4-inch split at the bottom center.  Sleeve 2 has the catalogue number written on it in pencil.  That sleeve has no splits.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: N/A

**If you’re a serious collector and you’ve never seen this label variation before, you should take it to mean that you’re not going to find another one.  This is the first one I’ve ever seen in 50 years of serious collecting, and no one has ever contacted me that they own one.**

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

Note:  All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.

CAUTION!  There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids.  A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.

Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)

**Check out my other auctions for more hard-to-find vinyl!
