The Beatles :  "White Album"     (2- LP)     Stereo

2nd US pressing from 1968 on Apple  (SWBO 101)

A rare and special Beatles collectible indeed !!!  Includes the original huge poster (with photos on one side and lyrics on the other) as well as the original four color photos, portraits of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr. 

All too many copies of this iconic release are wrongly identified on eBay and other sites.  To verify this as a genuine 2nd US pressing, note these characteristic identifiers:

*  "The BEATLES" appears raised (not printed) on the front jacket

*  the jacket is embossed and glossy

*  some but not all of the song titles are corrected on the labels (the Side 2 label wrongly spells "Raccoon", reading "Racoon")

*  "SWBO 101" appears at lower left of gatefold

*  "Stereo" appears at upper right of back cover

*  the Capitol logo appears in rim text of labels on Sides 2 and 4

*  "O" appears in the dead wax on all four sides, indicating the wax was pressed in the Jacksonville plant

*  Side 1 matrix #'s: SWBO-X1-101-J44 (hand etched in dead wax)

*  Side 2 matrix #'s: SWBO-X2-101-J43 (hand etched in dead wax) 

*  Side 3 matrix #'s: SWBO-X3-101-J46 (hand etched in dead wax)

*  Side 4 matrix #'s: SWBO-X4-101-J48 (hand etched in dead wax)

Vinyl:  EX based on sound quality; VG based on cosmetics

The sound quality here is wonderful.  The vocals and bass reproduction are especially impressive.  A great listen indeed !!!  Both platters spin true, with no warpage.  Multiple surface marks are present but have little or no impact on the listening experience.  Modest surface noise ("crackle") is audible between some tracks and during a few quiet passages.  High gloss still present on this LP, now nearly 50 years old !!!

Labels are bright and clean, with crystal clear print.

Jacket:  VG 

The jacket, front and back, remains glossy and looks clean overall. 

The inside gatefold is in superb condition, with B&W photos and text that are crystal clear. 

Ring wear and rub wear apparent front and back. 

Spine is intact but shows some paper tears; spine print clearly legible.

Top seams show modest rub wear and four seam splits (ranging from 1 to 3 inches).

Bottom seams show modest rub wear and two seam splits (one is 1/4 inch long, the other 1 inch long).

Includes the original large poster (22.5 x 33.5 inches) in very good condition.  Small tears are present in areas where the poster was originally folded to fit in the jacket.

Includes the original four color photos, one of each of The Beatles.  Photos remain glossy and are in excellent condition.  Tape residue appears on the backs of the photos but is not apparent when photos are viewed from the front.

This is a terrific copy of a RARE Beatles collectible.  A wonderful piece of rock history and a great listen, now nearly 50 years old !!!  Hoping this one goes to a good home.
