Stop! This is way from mint
Up for sale today is the Beatles Yellow Submarine Original Mono LP. However, it come with the 1980's Mono bag, and some git has cut the corner off! It is really only little more than a filler.
When I bought this I was not made aware of the flaws with this lp/bag. I pride myself on my honest appraisal of the records I sell. I want happy customers, not someone who feels ripped off.
Ok, so the sleeve is incorrect for the record, and it has a corner missing. There is also a tear in the front picture and significant shelf wear on the bottom edge. How this came to be with an original 1960's pressing is beyond me. The 1980's pressings are much rarer than the 1st pressing! Anyway, there you have it, a 1980's bag that has seen better days.
Now to the record itself.....This is a bona fide UK 1st pressing Mono Lp on the dark green Apple label, with the "Sold in the Uk....." text. The labels are free from grafitti etc, however the B side does bear a stylus scratch across it. The record has been ill looked after with many scratches and marks, but plays through without sticks or jumps, and with crackle more evident in some places than others. Don't ask me how, but the B side is noisier than side one with crackle pretty much throughout(but, be honest, we only really want it for the Beatles songs on side one). It does, however, still have a relatively strong sound with little evidence of distortion, which is better than its appearance would suggest. I have happily had this in my own collection for the past two years, playing it on several occasions with the joy that this is an original Mono copy.
This lp will probably benefit from a good clean. Playing now with a cleaning arm and still much dirt coming off side two.
There are numerous Mono copies having been sold between £350-600. Popsike even lists the Red lines cover alone(no LP) as selling for £21! This lp provides an affordable option for many Beatle fans who would otherwise be unable to purchase an original copy. Poor copies of this lp with the Red lines cover will still sell for £40-80.
