Up for auction: The Beatles 'Yesterday And Today' 3rd State Butcher Cover and record. This 1966 LP on Capitol Records is notorious for what is known as the 'butcher cover' due to the Beatles posing in butcher smocks with meat and doll parts hanging on their laps and shoulders.
The public outrage caused Capitol Records to recall the LP and paste the common 'trunk cover' over the 'butcher cover'  which has now been revealed. I have to say the peel job is quite good considering the condition of the cover which is rough to say the least.
As noted in the pictures: Cover is rough/poor with a very decent peel job. - the top seam is split nearly all the way across about 10" - the spine has splits and cracked paper similarly - the bottom seam has a 5" split from the mouth of the cover - it appears the cover was nailed up at some point and not very carefully ripped off the wall (!) - the previous owner sneakily and carefully taped George's face approximately where it would have been on the trunk cover and a nice placement to mask the hole (sort of). The new owner can easily remove George as he's barely taped in place.
Vinyl: the vinyl plays through with no skips but has consistent pops and tics (snap, crackle, pop for rice crispies fans!). I'd grade the vinyl as Good minus. It's still enjoyable with the volume up a bit! Glorious MONO!!
I'm including a reproduction of the Capitol recall letter and starting the auction at a reasonable price.
