Description

This is an absolutely beautiful first pressing copy of the Beatles - Yesterday and Today album! This is a stereophonic second state butcher cover still in it’s original shrink wrap! This beauty was pressed in the Scranton, Pennsylvania Capitol Records plant in 1966.

This is the absolute ultimate holiday gift idea for the record collector with (almost) everything!!!

Again this is a Stereo copy of the album! Reputedly only about one in every five butcher covers is a stereo copy. They are much scarcer and therefore more sought after/valuable than the more common stereo versions, and even those are darn hard to find! This butcher is a second state pasteover & is in exceptional condition, as you can see in the high resolution photos.

There are two prime indicators of where this record was pressed. One is the numeral 2 on the lower right of the back cover just to the left of the RIAA symbol. The second indicator is located in the runout grooves of the record itself:

Side one matrix # ~ ST1-2553-A1

Side two matrix # ~ ST2-2553-A5

Side two matrix is followed by the triangular symbol with the letters A I M within, which corresponds with records pressed in Scranton PA.

The record is a strong VG to VG+ - with some very light spindle marks and slight visible scratches that don’t affect play. The album plays very well and the owner obviously took good care of it. It comes with it’s original Capitol records “CAPITOL ’66, SOUNDS GREAT!” inner sleeve which is in mint minus near perfect condition with no creases, folds, splits or tears... But let’s face it you are buying the cover! So here are the details on the exact cover condition:

First off the cover has a strong, perfectly folded, readable and intact side spine, the top and bottom spines are both in excellent condition aside from very slight splitting at the record opening. There are no splits in the middle of the three spines, which is quite common on most copies. The shrink wrap is about 95 percent intact and it has protected the cover beautifully. The front has a small tear near the capitol logo in upper left that seems likely to have been caused by the record being next to a cut out that was marked with a stapler resulting in a couple of very tiny and hard to see indention marks. There is some very light foxing in the white areas, as is common in a record of this age where paper was glued onto cardboard. The small marks in the white area to the left of Paul & the trunk in lower left corner were actually on the shrink and wiped off easily. On the rear you will notice some glue that is on the shrink, not the cover, above the capitol records logo in upper left corner. There is a piece of missing shrink in lower left where foxing and a couple of rub marks are visible. It’s remarkable just how intact and beautiful this record cover is after 47 years!

PHOTOGRAPHS: The pictures of the cover were taken by a professional photographer so that I could show as much detail as possible. It is difficult photographing white covers to get the details to show, and shooting with the shrink was even more challenging. The sharpness on the spines I could never duplicate on my iphone! Ebay limits picture size so there is a lot more detail in the original files. Serious buyers please let me know if you wish to see the original pictures - the files are quite large and will take some time to download. I took the four pictures of the record and inner sleeve with my iphone – you can see me in the reflection in the record. The color in the inner sleeve pictures is not even across the picture the way it actually is – the reason it is lighter on the right side is because the window giving me light was on my right and makes it appear that way, the orange color is even throughout the sleeve.
