The Beatles – 'A Hard Day’s Night' – Genuine UK 2nd STEREO pressing– on the Yellow and black Parlophone labels with 'Gramophone' rim labels, ‘Sold in UK…’ label text and KT tax code. Catalogue number PCS 3058

Virtually unplayed with only 2 or 3 plays since new.

On offer is a pristine investment grade stereo copy of ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ dating to 1966. The record had initially been released in July 1964.

These 2nd pressings dating to 1966 (not later ones dating to 1969) are virtually as rare as their 1964 counterparts. Stereo in the UK in 1966 had made few in-roads in terms of sales and was still vastly outnumbered by mono, so whilst 2nd pressing copies in mono may be relatively common these stereo 1966 pressings are incredibly rare (evidenced by the low numbered stampers); this together with the fact that this copy is in pristine shop fresh condition makes it a truly desirable and collectable record with investment potential.

The audio on the Stereo version differs significantly from its mono counterpart in many ways. The echo and double tracking for example of Paul’s voice during ‘Things We Said Today’ is very distinctive and whilst this stereo mix has been re-issued and re-mastered, this original stereo version is by far the best in my opinion.

This audiophile copy retains all the detail and depth of the original Abbey Road master tapes. The run-in is silent before exploding into the familiar opening chords of ‘A Hard Days Night'. ‘I Should Have Known Better’, ‘If I Fell’ and ‘Things We Said Today’ sound breathtaking on this unworn copy. Certainly one of the finest recorded Beatles albums which is now beginning to be revered as a masterpiece and the first album where artist and composer wrote and performed all the songs.

Quality Beatles vinyl is a finite resource and is now becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.

Disc

Visual: EXC+ to MINT-

A stunning looking disc which retains its original shop freshness and rainbow sheen. It appears MINT in strong daylight. Under very close inspection using a halogen desklight nothing much more is revealed other than some faint whispy sleeve removal marks and the faintest of micro marks which appear and disappear when the record is angled. The disc is essentially in near mint condition but I have aired on the side of caution with the above grading. The heavy duty vinyl lies 100% flat on the turntable.

Labels: MINT-

Totally unworn and in remarkable condition with only the very faintest evidence that the record has been played. There is no writing to either label. Side one carries the KT tax code.

Audio: MINT

An outstanding audiophile copy and almost impossible to find in this condition. A HDN is in the main an acoustic album and therefore susceptible to wear. This copy I am pleased to report has no groovewear whatsoever and no distracting surface noise so prevalent on most copies. The run-in to ‘A Hard Days Night ‘ is silent. ‘I Should Have Known Better’, ‘If I Fell’ and ‘Things We Said Today’ sound breathtaking on this unworn stereo copy. A beautiful and stunning sounding copy which will not disappoint. Needless to say the record does not jump or stick.

MINT-

An original 1966 Garrod & Lofthouse patents pending STEREO cover in immaculate shop fresh condition. The front panel retains its high gloss laminate sheen and looks like it left the shop yesterday. The back panel is clean and fresh with no signs of ageing or discolouration. It has obviously been carefully stored in a protective sleeve, in a dry, damp free, smoke free environment for the best part of half a century. The only noticeable flaw which prevents an all out mint grade is the presence of a tiny laminate corner bend and bruise in the flipback at the top opening corner. A stunning cover and hard to believe it is 48 years old.
