Welcome to 20th Century Collectables

Quality vinyl for the discerning collector

Please check out my other listings for more high end Beatles vinyl.

The Beatles – ‘Beatles For Sale’, Parlophone rim labels, ‘Recording First Published …’ and with ‘Sold in UK…’ label text, catalogue number PMC 1240 dating to the original 4th December 1964 release date.

A fabulous copy which has probably only received 5 or 6 plays since new. A truly low amount considering this record and is now 50 years old!

20th century collectables are pleased to offer this genuine UK 1st pressing MINT audiophile MONO copy of ‘Beatles For Sale’ in its original 1st issue dark gatefold sleeve.

As many collectors now appreciate, an audio grading of vinyl is now as important as the visual grading. This trend is set to continue with many experts and collectors believing that the audio grading will in fact become the ‘de facto’ way to judge and grade vinyl. Here is an ultimate sounding copy which will not disappoint.

Happy Bidding and good luck!

Matrix numbers: XEX 503-4N & XEX 504-4N

Stamper codes: 3/APP & 2,6/ARM

CONDITION

Disc

Visual: Side 1 EXCELLENT+ Side 2 EXCELLENT

A superb looking disc which still retains its original rainbow sheen. Side one is unmarked and appears MINT in strong daylight, under a halogen desklight various light whispy sleeve removal marks become visible. Side two has one or two light micro marks visible in daylight but none of which effect play or are in any way feelable. Under a strong halogen desklight nothing much more is revealed other than fine whispy sleeve removal marks. This super heavy duty vinyl lies 100% flat on the turntable.

Labels: MINT-

A superb and fresh set of labels with only one or two faint spindle trails per label indicating that the record has hardly been played. Both the yellow and silver text is completely unworn and both labels are free from any personalization or writing. The KT tax code is visible on side one.

Audio: MINT

A testament to these early pressings. ‘Beatles for Sale’ is for the most part an acoustic album and therefore any imperfections in the audio become noticeable. I am pleased to report that the audio on this vinyl is flawless. All gaps are silent and there is no distortion or wear to any of the music signals. Delicate tracks such as ‘I’m a Loser’, I’ll Follow the Sun’, ‘Baby’s in Black’ and ‘Every Little Thing’ are stunning and have all the richness and detail of the original recording. A fabulous listening experience and a true audiophile copy of a UK 1st pressing.

Cover

EXCELLENT

Due to its flimsy construction this gatefold sleeve is one of the hardest of all Beatles covers to find in anything above VG condition. Fans would often damage the sleeve as they tried to push the vinyl into its interior one sided gatefold. This original 1964 sleeve however has survived remarkably well. A truly excellent example; the cover retains much of its original freshness unlike most which often look tired and soiled. The front panel is crisp and clean. There is a thumbnail/laminate crease on the front panel close to the right hand edge and a further very minor light thumbnail but overall the front panel is very impressive and sharp. The rear panel has a slight laminate crease to the bottom left. The interior gatefold is in excellent condition and is free from any writing or personalization. The spine is in excellent condition with the words ‘ Beatles For Sale’ clearly visible and undamaged. All in all a superb example and very difficult to find better. Importantly this is positively a 1964 1st issue cover with the darker front panel and not one of the lighter copies from later in the decade.

Inner-sleeve EXCELLENT

Clean & correct 1964 ‘rice paper’ inner with no writing.
