This LP is the first solo effort of a Beatle if you don’t include the “Yesterday” single.  It was hard to find then, and it’s harder to find now.  Reissues abound, especially after McCartney ventured into other classical projects, starting with 1977’s “Thrillington.”  This is the first of those efforts.

I personally have always found it ironic that McCartney’s comment to George Martin, when he suggested putting strings behind “Yesterday,” was “No.  We don’t want any of that Mantovani rubbish.”  But less than a year later, McCartney’s first solo effort was Mantovani rubbish released on the same label that Mantovani recorded for.

Classic.

Vinyl--- Side 1 is Excellent, just a very few light lines.  Side 2 is NM, unplayed-looking.  In fact, I’ve never played this copy, and I’ve owned it for decades.  May need a VPI cleaning, since I can’t play-test at the minute.

Plates--- XZAL 7598/ XZAL 7599

Cover--- Half the cover is still in shrink.  Overall, the cover is structurally very solid, no splits.  But there is light dirtwear and just a hint of fading.  Absolutely NO record outdent.

Labels--- NM.  Earliest copies were pressed with British backdropped labels, which contained the British spelling of the word, “Unauthorised” in the perimeter print, but with the “Made in U.S.A” disclaimer below Paul’s name.  This is one of those.

London Inner Sleeve--- Present and in remarkably good condition.  Wrinkled from factory insertion into cover, but hardly any wear.  Maybe slightly yellowed.  NO seam splits, not even almost.

If you’re a deep-cut Beatles collector, you will need this one in your collection.  There’s no need to settle for a VG original copy, or a NM reissue when you can own this one.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
