Beck: MTV Makes Me Wanna Smoke Crack / Bean: Privates On Parade 7" Split Single
1993 Flipside, Flip 46, US
There's a story behind why I have this ultra-rare gem in my collection... Back in high school I was in a Joy Division-wannabe band called The Thorns. Our drummer was in another band (aren't they all?) called Bean. They put out a 7" on Flipside, which he gave me a copy of. "Thanks" I said, but I played the first minute of the title track and turned it off cuz I thought it kinda sucked (even compared to our band). But, since it was a gift, I felt obliged to hold on to it for at least a little while. Well, it went in with my record collection and stayed there untouched for about 5 years until I got the urge to go through the ones I hadn't listened to in a while and see if any were worth hearing again. I picked out this one, and much to my surprise, I realized who this joker was on the flip. Muther-f*cking BECK!!!
So here it is, finally up for grabs to the winning bidder. This was his first ever release, and the recordings here do not appear anywhere else ("MTV..." was later re-recorded with different lyrics and composition on the "Loser" single). The inside sleeve features original artwork by both the bands, and a photo of Beck (presumably smoking crack?) in front of his TV. I've only played this record about 3 to 4 times in its entire lifetime. Vinyl is electric blue. On the runout groove is etched, "Looser" (sic). The cover has been stored in a plastic sleeve holder and sandwiched in with my other 12-inches, and shows only a very minor bend near the edge. In other words, both are in NEAR MINT CONDITION!
Tracks:
- Beck: MTV Makes Me Wanna Smoke Crack (LISTEN) / To See That Woman of Mine (LISTEN) (track order is actually reversed on record)
- Bean: Privates on Parade / Rock > Scissors < Paper

I'm a private collector selling about 500+ of my most treasured records. It's hard to let these go. I've kept my records clean in plastic sleeves and most have only been played a few times before recording to CD or being tucked safely away in my collection.
