From the archives of a noted Australian rock’n’roll and entertainment historian comes this unique piece of one of Australia’s most successful music exports to the world. Bee Gees. Charade ACETATE. 1974. Single-sided acetate, no labels, song title written on paper sleeve – misspelt as “Cherade”. From the Heavy Breathing LP (1974); Charade / Heavy Breathing was the third single released off the album in the UK, US and other markets. This acetate was probably produced for an Australian record company with the view of also releasing the single. However, it does not appear to have been released in Australia / New Zealand. Condition: Good Plus. There appears to be cracking or crazing on vinyl surface radiating from outside edge towards middle, extending about a third of the way in (I’m sure there’s a word for this amongst acetate collectors). This results in a certain amount of surface noise in the quieter opening passages at the beginning. SHIPPING: In these COVID times, there have been problems with international shipping from Australia beyond slow, or no, air mail. I’ve had a parcel to the UK damaged and another that was diverted from air mail to sea mail and, three months later, appears no closer to reaching Europe. Until things improve, I’m shifting to Express Air Mail. More expensive but if you’re bidding for a record you want to enhance the probability of getting it in good order. The other option is for Standard Air Mail but buyer pays for full insurance and the correct value of the record is noted on the customs form, which some buyers have been reluctant to do in the past.
