Description

This is a limited edition leather bound edition of the 1975-7 set of the Beethoven Symphonies performed by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Herbert von Karajan, which contains a numbered certificate signed by Karajan himself. The set contains 8 LP's containing the 9 symphonies, plus an extra disc containing a conversation between Karajan and Richard Osborne about the recordings - one side of this disc contains a German conversation and the other an English one! The discs are Deutsche Grammophon West German pressings - still pre-CD mass produced vinyl, but far superior to any UK pressings of the time! I have owned this set since new; the discs will have been played once or twice at the most, and are mint in the sense that they are in the exact condition in which I bought them with no wear or deterioration whilst in my custody!

Unless specifically otherwise stated, my vinyl items were originally purchased in the 1970's and 1980's (including those first issued earlier). They have been played exclusively on a Thorens TD-125 / SME 3012 / Shure V15-III set-up, so wear is minimal. Surfaces are clean - or as clean as the mass production techniques of the day allowed! Bear in mind that records in those days were mass produced and it was rare to buy a record with an absolutely silent surface. These - except where I specifically draw attention to defects in disc or sleeve - are as good as you'll now get!

The scans in this listing are of the actual item for sale - what you see is what you'll get! I rate each disc and each sleeve according to the e-Bay / Record Collector agreed standard, which is :

EXCELLENT(EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG):The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD(G):The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

If you want more detail on any aspect of this set please contact me before buying. I want you to be satisfied with your purchase; it costs me money if you're not!

The set will be posted in a card purpose-made card mailer with additional card packaging inside.
