Description
These records came from an extraordinary collection of LPs from the 1950s-1980s I was lucky enough to buy a year ago. The collection mainly comprises Chamber music, British music, and singers – both lieder and opera.
The collector in question began buying records in the early 1950s, stored all his records in purpose-built wooden cabinets, and played them only on the best equipment. As a result, many are in virtually ‘as new’ condition – very unusual for records of this era. Some of the records here are graded only ex or ex+ rather than mint or near mint – that is almost always because of one or two tiny faults or marks only. These records, in general, have not been exposed to either dust or blunt/chipped needles and play with NO groove damage and virtually no surface noise!

The lot comprises 4 12" LPs, and 2 10" medium play records. These are the earliest UK pressings, on the plum Philips 'microgroove' label. The sleeves are laminated front and back, with their original plastic inners.
The vinyl ranges from 'excellent' to 'mint' with great sound and a very quiet surface. There are a few light ticks during the 'Rasoumovsky' Qt., and a few light ticks at the start of the C sharp minor quartet. Otherwise these records are in really beautiful condition - stored away from dust and light, the sleeves grade ex+ to mint.

Guide to grading:
Mint: as new – might even be unplayed. Without blemish of any kind – no sounding or non-sounding marks, quiet surface, no groove damage, sleeve will be immaculate with sharp edges, and without creasing, writing, or difficult-to-remove stickers. I use this grading only rarely!
Near mint: virtually as new – at worst one or two small, very light non-sounding marks, or a few spindle marks. Definitely no audible marks – aurally, the LP should be superb with no groove damage and a quiet playing surface. It is possible the sleeve may have a few very tiny creases on the spine, or slight ‘browning’ – for details see individual listings.
Excellent: There may be some very light background surface noise, or a few surface marks. Again, there should be no audible marks unless specified in the listing. The sleeve may have very light creasing, or slight discolouration, but still be overall in very nice condition.
Very good: this LP will have audible imperfections such as scattered ticks, or an audible mark or marks. There are also likely to be visual imperfections such as light scuffs, or slight damage to the sleeve – e.g. break-through on the spine, or perhaps damage to the laminated surface of the sleeve.
