Description

Belbury Poly - The Willows
First ever vinyl edition of this amazing album - one of Fact magazine's top 100 albums of the decade. In 2004 the debut Belbury Poly album by Jim Jupp, 'The Willows' set Ghost Box's hauntological agenda (whether consciously or not) along with the abbreviated 'Farmer's Angle' and The Focus Group's 'Sketches And Spells'. Rightfully reissued in its entirety vinyl for the 1st time, it's especially nice to have the beautiful artwork to fondle and gawp at. An Algernon Blackwood quote on the sleeve sums the vibe perfectly "It's the sound of their world, the humming in their region. The division here is so thin that it leaks through somehow. But, if you listen carefully, you'll find it's not above so much as around us. It's in the willows". Its frothy electronics, churning synth sounds and enchantingly off-key melodies are purely evocative of the whole BBC Radiophonic workshop and the likes of Raymond Scott, but there's also an over-riding, knowingly spooky element that defines this age from that, and it's that ambiguity between optimistic futurism and an underlying darkness of reality, that helps make this album such a downright modern classic. For fans of Boards Of Canada, Demdike Stare, Broadcast or Moon Wiring Club - this is an essential purchase. (Boomkat)

Vinyl and sleeve both in mint condition.
